52 is selling strong, wow. That is really surprising.

IDW... um, time to start trying to pull some readers back, methinks.

All those variant covers kept people from buying from the very start. I know many many people who have decided to wait for the trades b/c they feel ripped off for buying the DW variants (which seem few in comparison), then the compnay goes under. IDW should have known better to begin with.

a few of the geeks at my local shop arent really into the IDW stuff. because they dont like the new continuity. Im not really digging it myself. they should of continued with the DW story, or atleast continued with something similar.

Instead, they raised the price by a dollar. The sales charts for September and October are going to be interesting to see how the $4 cover prices affect sales.

ugh why are so many people reading origins? I like Steve Dillon's art but it doesnt really fit that series, which also suffers from terrible writing (at least the first issue did, which was the only one i bought).

Really? Dillion's art is what turned me off. He makes everyone look like red neck hicks. If Finch was on it, I'd be interested.

I don't know about you guys, but when I was working as a writer in the industry, I'd have killed for numbers like those IDW is enjoying. Even Generations is above 10,000.

Yeah, the $4.00 a book sucks, but considering that a Yu-Gi-Oh pack with only 9 cards is also $4.00 a pack, I think sales will not be as bad as many think.

i think the attitude people adopt isnt the same as one you would have

to any indy comic book creator, having your book sell 20k is good news

but the way most people think about it is this. 1)Transformers is a huge license
    2) 20k compared to the 100k+ the Marvel/DC titles are making is a huge difference. especially since TFs have been in those 100k numbers before [granted it was back in the DW days, when it was the first TF comic in years and the 80s nostalgia boom was huge] but never the less, it reached those numbers before. People expect a little better

In all honesty though, i dont find the numbers all that shocking

the amount of "its not DW continuity, i dont give a crap" or "i've been ripped off/who is IDW/why another reboot/i give up on TF comics" kind of comments i hear on all the boards, it doesnt take me by surprise at all.

Right now a large portion of the fandom doesnt care about TF comics anymore, and the general comic reader doesnt give a rip because anything outside of Marvel/DC has to be crap

as for the $4 price hike, its a move IDW's deemed necessary

they know the numbers and probably feel the same way asyou. 20k aint good. especially when the price for the license seems to be a huge one. Jumping the price by a dollar, maybe losing a few readers, but still having that extra dollar they're hoping they can at least come out even in the end

id honestly rather pay $4 for a TF comic just to see them continue being made than not have any comic at all. Without the comics we're stuck with pokeformers cartoons for our stories, and thats something im not wanting to live with personally [plus, it keeps me with a job doing what i love doing, working on what i love working on]

My complaint isn't with IDW. They have done a good job.

It's with Hasbro. I think IDW needs to sit down with Hasbro again, and try to renegotiate the cost of the TF license.

Because if anything kills the comic this time, it will be that.

Here are DW numbers at the end:
    74 TRANSFORMERS GENERATION 1 VOL 3 #10 29,682 copies
    100 TRANSFORMERS WAR WITHIN VOL 3 #3 22,928 copies
    134 TRANSFORMERS ENERGON #30 16,777 copies

IDW sales will have to improve to meet the costs of the license. DW had three titles at the end, all outperforming IDW saleswise. Personally, I feel its not IDW''s fault, as the whole DW fiasco left a bad taste in TF fans mouths. They weren't willing to get bitten twice.

To deal with this, Hasbro needs to understand the situation better , and lower the cost of the license.

$4.00 a book is my limit. I'll pay that, but if they go up any more, I'll have to drop them.

I miss the days of 75c comics. :(

My favorite comics are indy comics. TMNT, INVICIBLE, Walking dead. theyre all great, the problem is. Like you said josh. the prices, and the contuinity reboot. its just a pain. plus I dont like the direction IDW is going. Im going to continue with some of the books, but def. not all of them. I loved the beast wars mini, and I cant wait for profile books, as well as the next mini.

with IDW/Hasbro....do they actually think they will sell great with TF: Generations....i doubt it, especially with it being random issues and there is no way of finishing a arc/story. Plus at $3/issue, you're better off getting the trades. You get a new cover, whopp-dee-do.
