If it were your son, what would you do? Who's right or wrong?

And why would Reuters seek comment from Ebay? Why would Ebay care about the reason someone is selling a video game and paying them fees? It's not like the item is fake or illegal.

I dont know why people are making a big deal about it. if anything, it's funny. I remember gamecubes and GBAs of misbehaving kids being put on ebay all the time.

Hard to find? Yeah right. Guess Activision isn't fond of Canada. I still see GHIII bundles here all the time.

I side with the father. It was obviously his money and if he felt his son didn't deserve it than so be it. Seems fair.

This happens all the time. Craigslist had a listing for a PS3 for $10 at one time because of a misbehaving child.

Hophead son got what was coming to him. While the dad was at it, he shoulda sold some of his other games. I'm 13, and I wouldn't do anything that stupid

Father has every right to do what he did. End of story.

The bigger question is why the hell did this even get reported. Seriously, has journalism become such a joke that they try to pass off funny ebay auctions has actual news now?

I find all the teenagers that posted their opinions on the auction to be funny. The man had every right to discipline his son.

    Word.

Although Reuters has time to report it for the same reason people have time to make "more than a hundred comments." Eh.

It was the son's fault. He shouldn't have been doing that in the first place.

I agree with DevilzFan, the father did have every right to sell the game.

Father's punishment is a little harsh, but he's in the right.

I like the “My innocent little boy smoking pot in the backyard with two of his delinquent friends." Like his dumb kid is a victim. And if he is then he shouldn’t be punishing him, but clearly this dude doesn’t feel that way.

He wants to punish the kid and sell the game that’s fine but maybe putting the little pot story in the sale description was unneeded. In the end I’m not passionate about this to think to hard on it.

This is the type of news where the reporter needs to be tracked down and forced to justify the story. And when said justification fails, his press pass is taken away, along with a finger.

    Short story: yes.

Long story, courtesy of Dr. Stephen Colbert:
That said, the kid deserved what he got. There wasn't anything harsh about it. His dad didn't lay a hand on him. From the sound of things, his dad didn't discipline him in any way save this. And his dad turned a nice profit to boot.

I totally read that as sarcasm. Like, "Oh, my kid pretends like he's all innocent and just wants to play videogames, but he's really a punk, and now he's a punk without Guitar Hero. Ha!"

That father had a right to sell the game. Serves his son right for smoking pot.

There's a debate about this? He caught his kid smoking pot, and didn't give him something he planned to as punishment, and let his son know what happened.

Hell, if I were that kid, my mom probably would have done the same thing, and still whooped my ass.

The kid got off easy after doing something he shouldn't have been, the dad got paid, and they'll probably move on with their lives. This isn't news, nor is any "debate" about it news, because if anyone is seriously trying to say what the father did was wrong, they need an ass kicking.

I hope the dad gets his son that Barbie game. That would be a good punishment for the dad to make the kid play it. I doubt he would smoke dope again.

Agreed. Still, that 9 grand will come in rather handy for the Dad.
The whole "eBay not available for comment" thing is a bit twatty, though. "So eBay, what do you think about one of your auctions going really well?" Durr.
Personally I'd say that the silly little basket deserves to not get his game, purely on grounds of stupidity. I mean, really; if you're going to smoke pot, you don't do it in your own back garden...
