There's a pretty good chance that I'll be in the UK around July next year and I'm seriously considering heading over to the USA to do the Botcon thing - mainly because it is not often I'm in that part of the world in the middle of the year. So I'm wondering if any of you UK guys could share your experiences - tips, tricks and a rough guide of costs would be nice (flights, accommodation, con entrance etc). Thanks.

Don't forget that BotCon might just as well be in September again next year...

I'll try and answer what I can.
Flight can be anywhere from £300 to £500 depending on when you book them and how you book them. Depending where it is you can normally get direct flight from London.

Con entrance is included in the price of the registration if you go for one of the packs that includes the figure set. Walk-ins are about $10 a day, but you have a long ass que to wait in.

Accommodation is obviously cheaper if you get share with some people. They usually have a group rate for the hotel (and other hotels if that fills up like this year) From memory it was about $129 plus tax a night for a room, but the hotel this year snuck in extra charges if there were more than 2 people in the room.

I would say about £1000 should cover you for the con.
That covers your flight, hotel (based on 4 people in the room) eats and spending money (though depends on what you want to get)

As for the overall experience. Every year it has gotten better and better.
Oh and be prepared to have little sleep and lots of drink. And you might have to 'submit' to SMegs.

    Hey

I think I hold the record for UK person going to the most Botcons (10) (and a Cybercon!)
    Might be wrong though

Yup, I'd agree with Boardwise, expect to blow £1000 on travel, registration and hotels

You WILL need at least another grand for spending money and food

Expect minimum 2k, more likely 3k

Let me know if you have more questions

    Cheers

    What?
The last few years I have went I have been around the £1000 mark for everything on total. Flights, hotel, food and spending.

Hitch buys a lot of stuff at Botcon. And parties in expensive places.
I've managed perfectly well on a total of about £1000 for each of the past 4 Botcons (sharing rooms each time); I'd say if you aim for that you should be OK. There will be plenty of people there who you know, so finding rooming space with a bunch of people shouldn't be difficult at all.

I am seriously considering going to Botcon '08, and I think £1k would be about my max unless I get a big fat raise or a better-paying job anytime soon!

I already spent an hour standing in the town centre holding a sign saying 'Will dance for Concept Camaro BB' to no avail. :D  (j/k... the most I'd do is beg for one!)

I may have to take you up on that unless my local Argos comes up with the goods (and Voyager Prime :D ) anytime soon.
