how EXPENSIVE collecting can be? I mean, i just dropped like $300 on PE reflector and my POL from BBTS, I gotta say, its pretty pricey. When did you realize how costly this all is?

The day I bought City Commander.

Followed by the day I sold my first custom Devastator.

when I first made up a spreadsheet to record my spending and it just barely topped four digits...

and then again when it topped five...

don't think I'll ever get to six, thankfully

It was right after I attended my first Botcon in 2009. Before that I wasn't a part of TFW, I didn't know of BBTS, and I had no idea of the vast amount of figures outside of Target, TRU, and Walmart. After Botcon I discovered a whole new world of Transformers ...

Collecting isn't all that expensive for me because I'm super selective with what I buy and in the company of the collectors on this board I don't even count as a collector probably. Right now I have 11 pieces on display with other stuff in storage that I rotate in and out during the year. I find more enjoyment from having a few special pieces carefully displayed than the visual diarrhea of a massive collection crammed into every nook and cranny of a room.

Some of my pieces are pretty pricey but I don't buy many in a year. This year has been the first in decades where I have bought relatively inexpensive retail toys. The G1derfulness of the gen/rts lines has drawn me back to retail figs in a way I couldn't have predicted.

Well, since I think any toy priced £80+ simply isn't worth the time, collecting isn't expensive for me. I don't even buy Leader Class figures unless they're on sale, and I think the price of most fan creations is beyond ridiculous.

The moment toys started coming to the stores down here in Joinville... I mean, a deluxe class figure costs 60 reais - that is about... 36 dollars >< Now I'm just importing stuff, unless I actually find something REALLY NICE on the stores

I've dropped FAR more on vintage comic books(I've dropped $5K on a single book before actually) so I knew a long time ago about the cost of collecting anything.
