He could have opened his cargo door, tilted to the side, and threw all the Deceps out the cargo door.

Then he could have gone back to the place where Starscream and Ramjet feared he would kill him (what episode was that?) and became all powerful enough to defeat all the Autobots.

 

I don't believe Astrotrain really wanted to lead. He was the one who Crowned Starscream in the Movie.

 

So, then who would he lead?

 

Ironic considering he wanted to take control of Stars in that episode where Ramjet thought Astro would kill them both if they didn't do what he commanded.

 

He did want to be the leader in The God Gambit and also made an attempt in Triple Takeover.

 

Most cons can fly, and are just lazy. Doing that would turn them from lazy to angry and armed.

 

The Autobots as slaves once he took over.

 

Why would he need to kill the Decepticons? He'd only need to kill Megatron and Starscream, who are the only ones who'd be a real threat to his leadership.

 

And Bruticus. Remember, Megatron reprogrammed him to obey only him.

 

Except that he was in space. Zero gravity, and all that.

'Course, on the other hand, Astrotrain obviously CAN create an artificial gravity field... but then, how exactly? Wouldn't the artificial gravity just pull everyone toward the deck? So that tilting to the side would have no effect?

Actually, if I understand space travel correctly (and I don't), if the vehicle you're traveling in tilts to the side, you don't notice at all, artificial gravity or no.

I don't see the rank-and-file Decepticons giving him much respect. Honestly, he always seemed a bit loopy to me.

I actually made Astrotrain the leader of most of the 85 'Cons before they arrive on Earth and come under Megatrons command in my G1-verse. He is more or less in the same position Perceptor was in the Marvel book.

There was a whole Cybertron full of Decepticons at the start of the movie and I'm assuming (because I know you just love assumptions  ) that not all the Decepticons would've gone on the attack on Autobot City and leave Cybertron unguarded. Certainly Shockwave wasn't seen in the City attack, nor in Astrotrain when the Decepticons retreated, so it's fair enough to assume that he was still on Cybertron. And since that's likely then there were probably more Decepticons that didn't go with Megaton's attack party either.
I guess though I'd have to wonder if Shockwave would let Astrotrain assume command if he arrived back from this big attack alone.

 

Funny Enough, Initally they intended to have Astrotrains roles for Megatron?

It makes sense why he's like this but still come on.......why write him in that role? Other than to sell toys.

I bet if Astrotain did become Decepticon leader the others would be nicknaming him AssTrotrain behind his back. Especially as he can get a lot of junk in his trunk when in shuttle mode.
