It's like what happened to my Richochet into Divebomb conversion. I tried to take the flames off, and I stripped out the plastic of the door. That Astrotrain looks like he flew too close to the sun: or maybe he got hit with one hell of a heat-blast. Anyways, you could always add some more damage (holes in the wings, flaked heat-tiles) and call him Extreme Astrotrain. Hell, I'd buy it.

Hey thanks everyone for the kind words. Yeah, a battle damaged version sounds keen. I never thought of that. Let me dig up my soldering iron for some additional damage... :p

No acetone went in. The dye instructions didn't mention to do anything.

SMOG, I just dunked the whole toy into the pot. No disassembly. I wanted to take him apart so i could retain the purple. But I looked at the amount of pins he had and gave up.

Well, on a sort of bright side, all those pins probably helped him keep his form as much as he did. Without all the pins holding those pieces in place, the parts probably would have warped much worse, and you wouldn't have even been able to reassemble him!

Though I figure after one piece got warped, you'd probably adjust your dipping strategy. :)

When you go back into it, I wouldn't go overboard with the other "damage". Just a few strategically-placed burns and scars would do it, I think; he already looks pretty darn damaged, but in a cool way. I've seen other "battle-damaged" figures where the damage was just way too much, and ended up looking really busy and sloppy.

It's just got such a cool look to it already that I would hate to see you lose that. Oh, you might find a way to weather his gun up, too, whether by dying it or painting it. Right now it looks way too pristine next to him, and ya gotta figure that whatever disaster befell him, it also befell his sidearm. :)

Overall, though, I really like that dusky look the dye gave it. I'm tempted to try giving Astrotrain a dunk myself, to see if I can achieve a similar effect.

He definately looks better in that color. Shame about the warping though. Hope the next one works out.
