With all the musically inclined people here it would stand to reason that some of you have been in some type of band. So just wondering what was the name of the band, what type of music and how far did you make it?

As for me I played in the school band in Jr High (trombone FTW) and in the last year I took up Bass guitar in the Jazz band. It was a lot of fun and we were pretty good. In the transition to High school I gave up the school band to continue playing football. I managed to hang on to the axe and started my first band with some school mates. It lasted 3 yrs and we started to record a demo, we performed a lot, but it was usually in front of our friends at house parties. The name of the band: Fork Union.

My second band was a little better and it was started in collage with a really good friend of mine. We started as a two person band (we didn’t know a drummer at the time) and was able to do a crappy demo, but needed a drummer for shows. After putting an ad in the paper, we found a guy who played really well and ‘no Whammies’ was born.

We recorded a full length CD (independent) and played a few shows. Then we were lucky enough to record a song for a national TV show that was going to do a video and the works, but after recording it, the network dropped it because our song was too ‘hard’ :rolleyes2  , they purchase the rights to the song and essentially jazzed it up with horns and such. We even shot a video and it never got off the ground. We played the equitant of southern California Punk rock. Much like NoFX and Face to Face.

After this time, my son was born and my friend stated university so it was a bust. We had a lot of fun and made some money in the process. If I can figure out how to upload music I will include my favorite song that we did.

    So how about you?

I've been playing drums for about 17 years now. I've played in a few bands here and there and made it as far as Detroit, no demo's. I'm currently in the band called "Chapter 4" based out of Kitchener. We're planning on recording our first album in 07 and then it's off to the Metrodome in Minnesota and California. Hopefully all works out.

    Once again...I'm with KA.

Would be nice to be in a band though, then it wouldn't be as scary.

I used to be in an industrial techno band; we gigged with VNV Nation in 2000.
Nowadays I just write stuff for myself.

Yep, played drums for 11 years. Check out www.myspace.com/vanderboegh for some tracks I recorded for my buddies' CD in September of 2004. His second CD we recorded this past summer should be out early 2007.

Drummers are typically a strange bunch. They provide a big part of the musical experience, but as a whole get very little credit.

It reminds me of a joke:

What was the last thing the drummer said to his band mates?

    A: 'Hey guys, I wrote a song!'

Playing Green Day's Time of Your Life in the stairwell doesn't count.
You owe me, like, fifty bucks if that's what you were doing.

Me, I'm in three bands. The Poppa Daddies for barbershop and tongue-in-cheek a capella covers, Cherry Bomb for crap pop-punk, and Fierce Jab for music from video games.
All three bands have the same four members.

I have a joke too. What do you call a guy who hangs around three musicians? The drummer.

I played guitar with some friends in college for a couple of practices. We played punk rock, named the band (I forget what it was), and never actually played a show or recorded anything. None of us were very good.

I have played drums for a friend when his regular drummer was out of town and he had a show to do. He plays around town a few times a year and has recordings but doesn't entertain any aspirations to make a career out of music. He's had a couple of small labels put his stuff out and has appeared on a compilation or two, but that's it. I have recorded with him but never for any commercial release.

Well, I've never been a real band, but I've been in my school's band for the past 8 years. I'm a percusionist, and this is my last year of it. I do admit that I'm a band geek, but not that big of one. I'm getting a plaque at the end of the year, so I'm getting something out of all this. That and we get a credit per year, so that's 4 easy credits towards graduating. Peace out.
