Are you for or against human sidekicks and humans in Transformers series or movies?

I Know lots of people think they suck and take away attention from the robots.

I like them, Transformers are supposed to Robots in disguise. So without human characters why would they need to Transform? They also make the Transformers out to be more alien. What do you think?

As far as I'm concerned, Transformers without humans is about as stupid as Spider-Man without characters that aren't Spider-Man.

I don't mind the occasional "Transformers on Cybertron" or generally "Transformers in space" story, but a series completely without humans... no.

I don't mind them. What tends to happen is that they are criminally underdeveloped. The LAM has given us decent characters to care about, which is good. As has Animated, which has a good human supporting cast.

Masterforce wasn't so bad, even if the kids were a little screechy (and thus annoying by proxy), but all other cartoons have not done anything with their human cast to make them remotely likeable.

The comics fare better (well, except for Dreamwave who gave us another round of Anime cyphers). The Neo Knights, Buster Witwicky and IDWs teens were all decent stabs.

I like how IDW have given us a balance of off-world stories that allow the TFs to come to the fore in the narrative, as well as Earth bound tales that involve humans. That to me, represents the best approach for TFs.

As has been pointed out, an absence of humans in TF would eliminate the need for the robots to disguise themselves. Interactions among the Transformer characters themselves are always interesting but they already know each other very well. In order for the viewer/reader/listener to learn anything about the Transformers -- be it as individual characters, as a race, or as seperate factions -- we need humans who know nothing about them who can learn along with us.

i think that no human sidekick makes them more alien. it makes them more like an actual crew of a military being stranded on an uknown planet with strange creatures. this is what i liked about the tf movie ds games.

After watching the Unicron Trilogy I would've said "HELL FUCKING NO!!!"

but after watching Animated.... I don't hate human characters as much as I used to. In fact, I like all the humans in Animated.

I guess it really depends on how well they're written and as long as they aren't the main focus of the show (like in Armada especially, did they really need to devote almost the ENTIRE first episode to those assholes? DID THEY REALLY?!?!?!)

Disguise is not the sole purpose of transformation - note that Cybertronians were capable of transformation long before they interacted with other species. But I have absolutely nothing against humans and sidekicks, so long as they're done right. Masterforce is a great example of how to pull off humans and sidekicks well; the Unicron Trilogy is at the other end of the spectrum.

I like humans as sidekicks to the Transformers. Just as long as they're not too annoying, like the kids from Armada and Cybertron.

As Infiltration so wonderfully demonstrated, Transformers need humans to give it all a sense of scale.

Otherwise they just become another group of generic space robots.

Transformation is useful for personal transportation and increasing combat ability and advantage. I know if I could transform into a jet I'd find it useful. Also, Transformers use disguise against other Transformers.

As for the humans, they're okay if they keep a certain degree of awe and wonder about the TFs they encounter. Once they start treating TFs as just another person, or even worse, a sort of pet, that's when things get irritating. Humans can be useful sidekicks, just not always saving the day when really the TFs should be able to do many things for themselves. In this day of available earth information via the internet, Transformers don't really need a human sidekick to learn to fit in and hide. For the most part Decepticons don't take on humans to help them with it and they're the ones that sometimes need to hide the best when going about their devious secret plans.
I can't vote because I need some kind of grey area inbetween just yes or no that takes into account the varied roles humans can play in TF.

Glad you pointed this out. Also, the "-ation" series kids were, in my opinion, the coolest set of TF kids to date. I mean, they actually had personalities and character development of their own!

My vote is for yes, humans. From a narrative standpoint, they give us access to the stories, as relatable avatars.
It's the same reason realistic alt modes > imaginary ones. We want Transformers to feel like something we can pretend is going on right under our noses.

I'm all for humans in Transformers as long as they know their role and stick to it.

So no really annoying humans that are a distraction away from either the story or much cooler characters.

The humans should only be able to harm the Transformers if they have something that would make them a super villain in some other series. So no just picking up a normal weapon and killing off Transformers.

The humans should feel like they are adding something to the story.

If done right human characters can bring a lot to a Transformers story, but done wrong and they are a train wreck that can keep me from enjoying a series.

I vote "NO, WE DON'T NEED NO STINKING HUMANS"

2 of my favorite series, War Within, and Beast Wars, didn't have real humans, and they were great. Granted Beast Wars had a couple episodes with cavemen, but they could have just been smart monkeys or some other alien, they didn't need humans.

Sometimes if written write the humans aren't soo bad, but I really hate when they are the focus of an episode or story. they should always be in the background or not at all.

Yup, sorry, I like humans in TF series. Who are these robots in disguise diguising themselves from, if not humans? They provide a necessary foil.

What about the option: Just as long as they have as much screen time as in G1.

Kicker, the 3-5 kids of the Armada Series, and the Kid from RID. Sucked big time.
Beast Wars and G1 had the best human interact time. I like Daniel more compared to the others. The adopted Human thing has gotten old. Sari is alright, since the people live in an Animatrix pre-war like world. But I think any human sidekick should be a minor supplement, not the key, to the war.
