We wanted less Miko. Season 2 almost has *no* Miko. Actually, all of the kids have miniscule roles in the last few eps.

We wanted less Bulkhead and Arcee. Their roles have been quite lessened in Season 2 (especially Bulk).

We wanted Starscream to kick some serious ass. We get the exact opposite, which only serves to fuel my theory that Starscream is the Daffy Duck of the TF Universe.

We wanted Soundwave to do something. No changes here.

We wanted more characterization on Prime. Season 2 gives him more spotlight, if nothing else.

We wanted more Wheeljack. We got more Wheeljack (even for a little while).

We wanted Megatron to have more spotlight. Season 2 seems to be about him whenever Decepticons are involved.

    What do you guys think?

Do the writers even have time to listen to the fans?

"We" isn't very descriptive, I'm sure there are many on this board (let alone those masses out there) that would disagree with things you mentioned. I am not entirely sure it's a good idea for the writers to listen to the fandom at all. Yes the fans are the ones buying product and watching the show but when are the opinions ever going to be uniform? Is a slight majority enough to go one way or another, or does it have to be overwhelming?

I'm sure they are aware of fan thoughts/wants/dislikes, but I doubt it holds all that much sway.

Hate to spoil it for you, but I don't think so, it could be just coincidence.

I sincerely hope not. That is the worst thing a writer can ever do.

If they are don't expect immediate changes. Episodes are produced months in advance.

According to the DVD commentaries, they were aware of this from the beginning.

While we're yapping about Armada, they'll be in talks of Season 3 already. I doubt our feedback makes much of an impression on them and it's better that they do what they feel is right than to cater to the fans. No regrets!

This. While i dont think ignoring the fans completely is acceptable, if the writers listen to everyting the fans say, the shows just going to become predictable.

Maybe they read, they PROBABLY read fan reactions, but like, I doubt we are influencing anything, because when we're talking about episode 1, they're already writing episode 30 and story boarding is done for 25.

Good lord, I hope not. Most fan ideas I've seen here and elsewhere could generously be described as terrible.

They should only when it's about the quality of the show decreasing.

they shouldn't have to force things in so they fanbase can be happy if they can't afford it or doesn't make sense storywise.

I'm sure someone at the Hub/Hasbro/etc does get some feedback from "viewers" (which may include some "fans" like us) and I'm sure some of this trickles down to the writing team.

But I certainly do not think it's likely a direct link. We're usually very aware if the staff are part of the fan community (Beast Wars, DJW, etc).

This is acceptable if a writer is creating his own stuff out of whole cloth. When he is writing for a licensed property with a significant fanbase, however, he'd damn well better not alienate them or fuck said property up.

While I understand that looking for good fanfics can be like panning for gold, mayhaps you need to look harder. There are some TF fanfics I've read that are truly amazing pieces of work.

The "significant" existing fanbase is microscopic compared to the new audiences they should at all times be cultivating.

And what you consider "fucking up the property" might just be the absolutely necessary reinterpreting of the franchise needed to appeal to the next generation of kids, whose tastes differ from the previous generation's. There was a "significant" portion of the TF fanbase in the 1990s who 100% believed Beast Wars was fucking the property up. Many of them still believe it.

    Let the writers write.
