I'm pretty sure the transformation is figure out when they designed the Prime figures, right?

What's with the different transformation in the Prime toys?
In the Prime toys there's 4 different way of transforming Prime. Two for Arcee and most of them are close, but I think still incorrect.
Look at that ratchet. Why does he have Painted chest windows? Why does Starscream jet have legs.

I would of thought after so may series and toy Hasbro would have those show molds look like the toys (or the other way around)

    Basically what I'm asking is:
Do you guys think they plan how a characters transformers?
And if they do. Do you think that information get shared with the shows' team and/or the toy-makers in full?

They probably get info from the animators when planning and designing the toys

It was stated a while back that the animators were allowed "to go crazy" with the transformations. If you watch some of the transformations in slow motion you can see a lot of folding and expanding.

every series has featured fake transformations that don't really carry over to the toys, but the movie and prime lines are abundant with it.

Yeah, what everyone said here is pretty spot on BUT the figures are pretty loyal to where stuff goes. In Darkness Rising for example, when the autobots enter the mine and starscream is going to blow it up, the way he leaves is by transforming and, the way the his figure is arranged, the jet mode kinda works out where everything would be. Same with Arcee's chest kinda and the 'windshield'.. but yeah, it's kinda hard to take some animation model and make it into a real life figure considering the show shifts stuff that cannot be shifted

It certainly seems in Prime that the transformations are a lot more "make shit up" than, say, Animated where it was just hyper stylised but everything assumed a certain spot.

I gotta say I'm not a fan of Prime's jerky transformations. None of them are smooth and every charatcer transforms with the same speed and weight.

    -What do you mean Jerky?
-Why shouldn't transformers transform at the same speed? (Expand on your thoughts there please.)

I can't tell what your point is...

But, if your point is "Why don't the toys look EXACTLY like the show?"

It's because THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE, mostly. It's impossible to have them transform exactly like the show, because it's so complex.
And they already tried making the show look like the toys in Cybertron. It was pretty much a FAIL.
And also, OF COURSE they plan the transformations.
For toys, HOW WOULD THEY MAKE THEM IF THEY DIDN'T PLAN THEM??
For the show, look at the theme song.

I'd say they are planned, but of course the toys can't cheat like the show.

I don't know what he means by jerky either, but I think what he means is that the transformation speed should vary depending on the robot's size. Such as Optimus should transform slower than Arcee.

I thought it odd how Starscream got shot in the thrusters but then had a scratch on his leg.

I'd say the most accurate transformations were in the Unicron trilogy.
