Are people worried that the 2011 Botcon toys will be trash?

    My daily entertainment (the Punch/Counterpunch thread) got closed down so I thought I'd start a new thread.

    I'm holding my opinion on Botcon G2 until we see more previews. I'm not into garish color schemes like Pyro's tiger pants but I'd be down with a black sideswipe, green chrome beachcomber, etc. Even if the colors are bad the molds should be pretty good.

    That's said, if 2010 uses all the good Universe 2 molds will Botcon 2011 (in Hawaii) be like 2009 with questionable choices? If Botcon 2011 can't use any movie toys, and if they can't use animated molds and if they can't use anything from the generations line because it's too new, what choices do we have for 2011? Or are they going to make 2010 a mix of good and bad molds to save some for 2011?

    Universe molds available for 2010 (voyager and smaller)
    Inferno -> Pyro
    Sideswipe/Alert -> Punch/Counterpunch
    Cyclonus -> SG Cyclonus
    Hound w/ Ravage
    Prowl/Silverstreak
    Octane
    Astrotrain
    Legends Megatron/Hound/Prowl
    Legends Bumblebee/Brawn/Beachcomber
    Legends Cosmos/Warpath/Wheelie/Hotrod

    Galvatron
    Ironhide/Ratchet
    Dinobot
    Cheetor

    Other, yet to be used molds, not sure if any would fit a G2 theme
    Cybertron Scout Scattorshot
    Cybertron Unicron
    Energon Sharkticon

    The 2009 toys were trash, and their price on Ebay reflects this.

    To clarify, I'm not calling the 09 set trash, but I do believe that the club's creative freedom was severly limited by their mold choices and I'm worried 2011 will be the same.

    2009
    Kup - colors and head turned out decent but with the red alert mold and lack of hands it doesn't scream kup
    Flak - I like the artic camo but I would have prefered this was a new character name instead of calling it flak when Universe 2 Overload already makes a better flak.
    Thunderclash - in the energon rodimus mold, eh
    Landshark - not enough character development for me to like a new character, and it's an ultra size
    Scourge - obviously the popular character of the set
    Sweeps - popular to go with scourge
    Leozack/Skyquake - I like this mold but the classic seeker have make it antiquated. And skyquake was also too small
    Banzaitron - ???
    Razorclaw - great coloring, average mold
    Elita One - great coloring, shellformer mold

    I don't think the 2009 set sucks at all. I wish I could personally afford a the 09 set. But self set restraints won't allow my to spend the money.

    There's a lot of figures that they can draw from to have a good set for 2011. It is just going to have to be a theme that most collectors want. Maybe an updated Machine Wars set would be cool.

    I'm confused about what molds the Botcon people can use. I understand why they can't use Movie molds, but at what point does Hasbro say they can use new molds (i.e. Universe 2.0)? I have always been under the impression that they can use molds Hasbro is done using.

    Anyways, for me, the Botcon exclusives have yet to disappoint. Sure, some sets are better than others, but I can't think of one I wouldn't love to own. And of course everyone is going to have different opinions are which are the 'good' molds.

    That said, they need to use Energon Sharkticon. Preferably this year, as I am going this year. :D

    Do we know for a fact that they can't use Animated molds? I doubt they will, their fiction seemingly set to take place in the G1 universe until 2012, but they could theoretically make a great set out of Animated.

    By the time Botcon 2011 rolls around, I'm pretty sure TakTom would have also released all their Animated figures - so a TFA-based set wouldn't be out of the question. I'd definitely be interested. :)

    Let's not froget that there ARE some Unicron Trilogy molds that haven't been used yet. WhiteMocha has done some excellent sets that has molds Botcon exclusives haven't used yet (with the exception of his diaclone set, for obvious reasons):

    http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-fan-art/240499-botcon-2010-ideas-digibashes.html

    And what is yet to be seen is if the new molds for Generations and PCC can be used as well, because Seaspray's upcoming Voyager is awesome but it might be considered movie because of Generations following ROTF.

    The BotCon sets have been trash pretty much every year, IMO, so I don't think it's unreasonable to predict that the 2011 set will suck as well.

    Forgot about Octane and Astrotrain. I thought we were told that they couldn't use Universe 2 molds for 2009 because it was still at mass retail. I assume that same rule would still exist for Generations and 2011.

    Flights to Hawaii are long and expensive. Just about everything is expensive in Hawaii...

    Between the expense, all the shipping that has to be done for this show, and the negligable foot traffic they'd be able to count on from locals, we can safely say that Botcon will never be in Hawaii.
