When I first started collecting, I was using EBay but at this point I am starting to think that EBay buyers are insane. I mean, if you ever want to sell, it is a good thing. But buying, forget about it.

Currently I am looking to get a 1st gen IPad. I see people paying and bidding over the price of getting a new one. How the hell does that make sense?

Even on TF, you always see this. I cannot tell you how many times I am bidding on a loose item and all the sudden it jumps up to a price I can get it in sealed condition for. Then it sells like $20 over that!

    Have Ebayers lost their minds?

They may be international customers where US retail is much cheaper than their home country's retail. Therefore when it ends up over US retail, they don't really care.

    Ebay:
To an extent yes. People get caught up in the auctions but eBay to me is still one of the best places to pick up good deals. Some of the auctions that fly under the rader and aren't listed with enough info or posted on the boards are the auctions to try and find. The others that are easy to search for have competitive bidding from people trying to resell and those willing to pay whatever the cost to win the auction.

This^ I was watching an auction for a G2 Starscream, Action Master Starscream, and Pretender Starscream. All complete and looked to be mint. It closed for under $5 and I only didn't get it because I forgot about it on the day it closed until about 5 minutes too late.

Ive made some good deals off ebay in the past 3 years buying there. :D
Sometimes, if the prices skyrocket to the point of being obscene, then yes- I do start to wonder where all those winning bidders get their stash for paying crazy amounts of $$$ for - let's say a $2k+ transformer..:sly2:

alucard ... all are NOT the same....

I listed g1 hardhead for sale complete
    2 guns ,cannon, headmaster...

It sold for $73.00 dollars... My shipping was 4.95

A BIN was listed for $69.99 but shipping was $9.99

I checked out the buy it now , it looked good untill you examined it close and relized it was missing one sticker...

Something as small as One sticker can make a big diff in what people will pay, plus you have to look at the BIN shipping cost

other countries do have pretty high import tax on toys so foreign buyers with high bids are not that strange. but there are information that we'll never know, such as how many of those bids were genuine bid instead of just seller's buddy driving up the price, how many of those high bid were just lazy bidders setting up ridiculous max bid trying to block the snipers hoping the auction will end only slightly higher than regular 'market price', and how many of the crazy high bids actually complete the transaction instead of just telling the seller 'i changed my mind' and suffer invisible ebay 'non payment' slap on the wrist.

    Ebay:
you are forgetting the rule of Supply and Demand.
when the demand is high and the supply is low, the prices for certain things will go up.

i really don't like paying a steep premium for a figure, but if i want it bad enough, i save up for it and pull the trigger.

when your toy is one of few on ebay it helps to bring more money
    being supply is low..

I have listed a item and thought wow mine will be the only one on ebay...

It was fine bidding was good... a day out bidding stopped I said what ?
sure enough did a search someone else just listed the same toy for auction

I suspect people stopped bidding on my with the chance they could win the other persons toy

i still did o.k but prob not as good had the other guy listed his figure after my auction was over

some time people get caught up in the thrill of bidding on items at auction, now as far as that applies to Ebay is suspect mainly the last few minutes of an auction when the snipers come out to play.

Tell me why bidders spend upward of up to 75 dollars for a 50 dollar gift card and I'll give you your answer.

It just seems to me that when I travel the Ebay borders, the seller"s items are platinum plated gold. When I go to sell......... my shit is zinc plated lead!

    :lol

I get fair deal on most stuff, but when someone sells the same item I do for a lot more..... :banghead: ...... Shill bidding is rampant!
