Or at least in the works? It'd be a shame if there wasn't.
You are something like the sixth or seventh person to ask this question and the answer to each is the exact same:
Yes. TF Prime will definitely have a toyline! Heck at Botcon, they even mentioned how well Bulkhead's toy was coming along.
No. There will never, from now on, be another Transformers toy released. That's it. A franchise that pretty much lives solely off of toys will cease making toys.
i think every single fan in existance should be strapped to a chair and slapped across the face with a Tuna until they FINALLY remember this information, prime toys are in the works, the designers are working on them, we just haven't seen them yet!
It has been confirmed time and time again that there will not be a toy line for this series. People, since when has Hasbro ever made toys for a show? Just look it up, they've said themselves that TF: Prime was only going to be a three part special with no figures released. Oh wait, it isn't April 1st is it?
Yes, and for that matter, there's even a date lined up for their release; October 2011, as stated in Hasbro's business webcast, which this very site had an article about! People sure can be unobservant at times. >>
To be fair, several botcon reports erroneously reported that there was no toy line planned, including here on TFW, and the wiki still says that too, even though they contradict exactly that a few words later. Being observant isn't enough when the reports are contradictory.
there will be toys but some characters look impossible to make show accurate. or takara and hasbro will blow us all away.
Why wouldn't there be? A new series almost certainly promotes new toys.
I will be surprise that they released the Toy Line in July.
Actually I think that confusion comes from a misunderstanding. If asked if they have something planned or in the works and Hasbro isn't working on that project at that moment they will say they have no plans or aren't working on that project. That does not mean they will never do it, just that they aren't working on it at the time you asked them.
So back in the summer months when they were asked Hasbro likely had most of it's resources working on toys for Transformers Dark of the Moon. Once all the planning for that was out of the way they were able to shift over to Transformers Prime and able to tell USA Today there will be Transformers Prime toys.
If it's a Transformers series getting a TV show, there is no reason whatsoever that toys will NOT be developed for it considering the TV shows are at the core just half-hour comericals that may or may not have good writing behind them.
Actually, no they didn't. None of them said they weren't making toys. The reports were "For now, Prime is just a tv show." For some ridiculous reason, people took that to mean they weren't doing toys at all, when that is quite clearly not what they meant.
However, we did learn they were even back then, since Siebenaler mentioned he had been working on both the Optimus and Bulkhead toys, so that misunderstanding could have been cleared by the guys doing the various reports just rereading their notes.
Well, the reports said "for now there is no toy line planned yet" when the guys really had said they merely weren't discussing the toy line (ie at that panel). Sure, than can be misunderstood, but once again, two toys were mentioned.
I was at that very panel at BotCon and it seemed pretty clear at the time that they said that producing the show in and of itself was a tremendous production endeavor. With the movie coming next summer and the obvious toys to follow that, coupled with the boatloads of Generations/Revel the Shield stuff that somehow has to find a way to get in stores before that, it was clear to me that shoehorning yet ANOTHER line of toys in there was absurd.
The obvious nature of Transformers toys to supporting media relationship made it pretty clear that new toys for Prime was something that was further into the future and they didn't want to even bother getting into it yet with a billion new toys coming out in the next 12 months.
That's true. The corporate stock answer was that they were not planning anything. But the people actually working on the toys gave us a heads up about what they were working on.
YES, liek we have sayed before YES!
there wil lbe toys on october 2011 (Confirmade by ahsbro o ntheir webcast)
seriously i did not go to botcon and i remember it!
The thing is, the next 12 months aren't really relevant as far as line production goes, the production & design process means all that's gonna be sold through the coming year is already done and has been for some time. The process usually starts nearly two years before the street date and the toys are at the finctional prototype stage one year before said date (to take a few examples, TFA was put together in 2005, the WfC designs were at the final stage in october 2008), and for TF Prime to be ready to be aired next month it means all the preproduction work at Hasbro was done around the end of 2008 and if the toys are really for october 2011 they they'd indeed been designed already by last botcon, and similarly the design work on the third movie's toys is already done and they're at the factory stage right now.
The only reason not to mention them is purely marketing considerations, since they've started working on building the hype for the third movie. But it's out of the hands of the Hasbro design staff, they're already busy designing the 2012 line.
The same thing was said about some of Animated's characters/designs.
They've gotten pretty good at making "impossible" designs work as toys.
