This a not so succesful repaint of mine from some time ago, I originally fixed up this Aquaspeeder with broken front etc, and then I thought I'd try to repaint it. Unfortunately I hadn't any Humbrol Enamel paints, but I had some Games Workshop acrylics I thought I'd try out. Unfortunately they don't bind as good as enamel paint and eventhough I already gave vehiclemode a layer of clear coating the paint will still chip at the same tight joints. I hope some day to do a full clear coating of it and hopefully it'll add a bit to the durability. Anyway here's what he looks like sofar. I know it's not pretty... but that was the best I could do at the time with the material I had.
Looks good. The acrylics need to cure, but once they do, they pretty much fuse with the plastic. (that should explain the durability issue)
Unfortunately not. I made the repaint back in September (or perhaps October, can't remember), but the acrylics don't fuse very well on this plastic, it's only the hardened clear coating that makes it hold so it doesn't chip.
Acrylics arent tough enough for these types of things period. No matter how much clear coating you add they will always chip, thats why it is always best to stick to enamels or something stronger. Acrylics are only good for detailing. Still this is how we learn isnt it? Nevermind.
Yea, as mentioned I prefer enamels, but for some weird reason I can't find enamel paints anywhere anylonger in my area.
My choices are quite limited as well, thats why i prefer to use car paint as i can mix up my own colors much easier and theres more variety to choose from. (and they dont chip)
Yea I guess I should try getting some, however the stuff my father has (real metallic car paint from his work at VW) is to thick to be applied by brush. Do you use a thinner ?
Hehe yea Actually I see he's a Stormtrooper... the G.2 line is confusing regarding Aquaspeeders and Stormtrooper because there are 2 figure of each with the same names Anyway he's a repaint of Stormtrooper Drench http://www.tfu.info/1993/Decepticon/Drench/drench.htm However to me he's an Autobot Aquaspeeder named Aquanox
