Beware Conficker worm come April 1 : Christopher Null : Yahoo! Tech now i wish i had a antivirus software and to block every thing that can harm my pc
Got an email from my dad telling me about this. Kind of fitting for a virus to be released on April Fool's Day, because it sure as hell ain't no joke.
actually the virus is specifically designed to get around anti-virus software, and from what i understand, this is when it goes active, as in, it's already out there and you might already have it
Won't matter. An estimated 12 million PCs are already infected. If you're that worried about it, reformat now. And SOME versions of it are detected/blocked, but not many. There already at least 4-5 versions of conflicker/downadup out there. Interesting, masterfully constructed virus. To bad we have NO IDEA what (if anything) it's actually going to do April 1... World's biggest botnet or joke, most likely.
I do too, but I also have PCs as my main computers. Guess I will use the Mac until things get figured out.
Cha! Read up on this virus and most of the other main virus types out there. The security issues that these things take hold of are present in both OS. There was a recent VX competition to exploit a system the fastest and it was Safari that was cracked quickest. Not that non-Macs were any better...Safari was just the one that got busted down first. I don't care about Macs vs PCs...at all. I'm actually interested in virus-ware and exploit stuff. One of the biggest lies going around is that somehow Macs are safer...and they aren't. The VX writers just target PC systems more frequetly because of the larger user base.
So why have I never had a virus? I have used safari for ages. I don't even know what they do, does the computer blow up?
Hah, our entire corporate network got the Conficker B virus about 1.5 months back. We're only just getting back to normal. Roll on Wednesday when it all goes tits up again...
Because you're not an idiot? Because you don't go to the 'wrong' kind of websites? Because like I said, most of the VX stuff is targeted at PC systems. Most virus activity is picked up from really doing crap you shouldn't be doing to begin with. Stuff like the MySpace exploint etc are pretty much rarities. Most computer users with a tiny bit of savy won't encounter virus programs or will have appropriate safeguards. Using a Mac will probably keep this bug from getting to your system. The reason though, is because it was never targeted to get to your system, not because it can't. I really think it's only a matter of time before someone out there rigs up a virus to really attack the Mac population. However, the user base will really have to increase otherwise, transmission won't exceed the spread of the viral existance. In otherwords, they could contain faster than it could spread, unlike PCs where it's the other way around. Please don't think I'm taking sides in some PC vs Mac debate. I really, really don't care. All I'm saying is that from what I understand, all the same vulnerabilities exist in each system, but Macs are undesirable targets due to their proportionately smaller numbers/userbase.
The only thing I have on my C drive is software and an OS. Everything else is on separate hard drives. Viruses do not concern me. Nor do asteroids.
It doesn't use Network Time Protocol or the system clock at all. It looks up the time off common sites such as Google, etc.
Well, that is why you don't use Safari. And macs are safer, but its only because most viruses don't bother to target it.
