    Does anyone know or have a ballpark figure, of how much the entire 84' G1 toyline would have cost? And if possible what the entire 84' and 85' toyline would have cost together.

    The entire line at 1984 prices? I'd assume probably in the 3-4k range. If you're just buying the American releases.

    I assume you mean when they were first released in the 80's??

    Well, more than anything else, it depends sharply on where you could find them back in the day. Now granted I was a wee lad when the 84 line premiered, but there are a few prices I can just barely remember and even then it's still fuzzy...

    Minibots - $2.60 to $3.80
    Cars - $8.00 to $13.00
    Jets - $13.00 to $19.00
    Cassette 2 packs - ?? $5.70 to $7.80 ??

    Optimus - $22.00 to $27.00
    Soundwave - $18.00 to $25.00
    Megatron - $23.00 to $29.00

    Dinobots - $14.00 to $19.00
    Insecticons - $7.80 to $11.00
    Dlx. Insecticons - $12.00 to $16.00
    Triple Changers - $13.00 to $17.00

    Uhh... not sure about anything else in the 85 line other than Blaster equaling Soundwave in price.

    I'll edit if it comes back to me. Anyone with concrete information, feel free to correct anything I posted, lol.

    Just as an edit to Kid Icarus, Optimus and Megatron were 29.99 each at KB Toys.

    Here are scans of the 1985 Sears Wishbook and the 1985 Consumers Catalog.

    I'd give my left...something, I don't know what I'd give, for one day in a toy store in 1985.

    Sorry, dude but do you mean the prices as at that time or now for example, to collect the '84 in 2007?

    Tell you what, Rage - when I get my time machine working, you can come with me. We've a few stops in the '60s and '70s to make before this, but just stick it out. :)

    Anyone else? This isn't a joke. Must bring your own weapons. You'll get paid after we get back. Safety not guaranteed. :D

    so
    6 minibots=15.60
    8 cars=88.00
    3 jets=39.00
    4tapes=11.40
    1optimus=22.00
    1soundwave(wbuzzsaw)=18.00
    1megatron=23.00
    5dinobots=70.00
    3insecticons=23.40
    4dx insect=48.00

    ok, based on these prices and items mentioned the total so far is:

    Awesome, I'm in!

    Can we do that whole changing history thing while we're at it? I'd like to convince my parents to let their six year old son play hockey while we're there.

    In all seriousness, there isn't a person reading this who wouldn't clean out the store if they could.

    And that joke is just as funny now as it was when I first saw the scanned newspaper clipping :lolol

    Well, plus tax, and assuming the best possible prices. Would be a steal regardless.

    You forgot Jetfire too! :D

    Ha ha, somebody has that exact clipping as a sig here, cracks me up every time I look at it. :lol

    Well, I'm not entirely sure why, but this topic has really piqued my curiousity to the point that I found the time earlier today to rummage through all the G1 packaging I own and actually find a bit of concrete evidence to support what I'd quoted earlier from memory. Most of what was found isn't really quite off the money (no pun intended), but there's a big shocker at the end...

    Keep in mind I checked as many boxes/cards possible without disturbing the toys on display... So, let's take a quick trip back in time, shall we??

    I remember distinctly the constructicon giftset costing $20 at Zayers back in the day. Because I got a $20 for my birthday that year to spend on something and that's what I bought.

    The cars typically ran around $10 at the major retailers from what I recall.

    Good luck, you'd probably find much of the same back then as whats happening today, mass shortages, angry parents, but no ridicuous scalpers to compete with.
    Ahhh, remember the days at my local Ames with nothing but primes, jumpstarters and insecticon shelfwarmers.

    Dinobots - $14.00 to $19.00

    Can't say anything about 1984-1985 prices on account of nonexistence, but the G2 Dinobots did not cost this much on their release.

    Given my family's income level in 1994, there was no way in hell my mother would spend $15 for a toy on a non-holiday occasion.

    I seem to recall purchasing Green G2 Slag at KB Toys for a bit over $10.
