MacBook Pro with Retina Display Teardown | iFixit
Yay! I get a pixel to myself!
Does it really matter? All the crApple troglodytes will flock to the store to pick up the newest model every 3 months anyway.
Does it matter... to whom? To Apple and its fanboys, probably not. But Macbooks have been one of the couple of Apple products that are well-liked by non-fans. That might change now .
I've always been a PC and not a mac. Shame to hear this though, I'm sure it'll cause quite a few people some trouble.
My phone and tablet being 'closed off' I can handle since they do two or three things each and as long as they don't cut my knackers off in the night, I don't care that I can't upgrade them.
But this is fucking appalling. I can at least with my giant Toshiba laptop, remove the battery, the memory, the hard drives and probably the optical drive and the display if it becomes required for repairs. This thing Apple has created is a fucking nightmare for techs and as far as I am concerned, a giant neon saying 'We think you are ******ed' to its user base.
Memory soldered the the fucking motherboard....who in all of Hades thought this was a good idea?
Should I give a fuck?
If you're going to buy this Macbook, then yes.
What's the warranty like? If they're willing to replace the thing for a few years, then whatever.
But this is Apple of course, so I'm bound to be very, very wrong.
Well, yeah. This kind of hardware lock down makes repairs prohibitive and expensive and totally wasteful. By my reading if a single component fails, it potentially bricks the entire unit. Instead of a two second job to remove a stick of RAM from a DIMM, its at least twenty with a soldering iron. Considering DIMMs have been a working, reliable technology since before I began working with home computers I find Apple suddenly going to soldered RAM on the mobo to be fucking insane.
Solution: buy a real computer.
A PC is better, but calling them crApple is about as original as dog shit.
I was very damn tempted by this computer until I read about the solid state drive and the RAM being not upgradable. Those are the types of things you want to upgrade after a few years of use. I really hope that they offer a more standard laptop in the future. After using a Macbook Pro, I feel like I just cant go back to a Windows laptop.
Oh man, you're right. Because your validation is so important to me.
I don't like Apple, but even I had considered a MacBook at one time as I already had my share of Windows machines.
Except then I realised the stats were horrible, I couldn't upgrade it and the casing was weak and prone to damage.
This new one isn't making me change my mind anytime soon. I mean, non-upgradable is Apple's choice, but at least make it freaking repairable!
This is why I never bought a MacBook: because Apple likes to screw over people and I'm not enough of an idiot to buy into such a business model.
Terrible terrible terrible. It's a shame because a good macbook with dualboot to windows is like an ideal situation.
A lot of Apple- addicts are usually pretentious cunts who want to brag to their friends about thick their wallets are. Only a small minority of Apple-users, actually purchase it for the hardware actually appreciate their purchase and could probably also own a PC.
Do you use the ole M$ too? What about $ony? In the year 2012.
Keep the stupid fanboy shit out of this forum.
Obviously not, my whole family have apple macs yet none of us have the newest model. In fact, we all have rather old models because buying a new computer every 3 months would be rather expensive. Your statement is completely invalid and shows only your hate of a certain company.
I keep wanting to get a Macbook. Maybe I'll wait until the next version.
