    Dear UFO nuts:

    WE'RE NOT THAT INTERESTING.

    Yours,
    Jarodimus

Umm... have I missed a bunch of press releases in which, say, Queen Elizabeth had High Tea with E.T.?

Gosh, we better get on that. We've probably only got 4 billion years or so.

I'm all for space exploration, but using "ZOMG teh Sun's gonna burn out!" as a reason is pretty stupid.

I don't beleive UFO's have visited our planet in quite some time if ever. Maybe the Pyramids just because it seems so hard to build them, but possible. It's just hard to believe that the universe being infinite and that the planet earth is just a speck compared to what's out there, that we are the only planet with living things. I'm not saying i've seen aliens or I beleive others who have, but don't be so sure as to rule it out. History shows us how stupid we can be. for example...the earth is the center of he universe, the earth is flat, cigarettes are good for you....just to name a few.

Can't believe someone actually spent the time typing that up.

I think that is a somewhat valid reason, cause well, we do need something to motivate us if not now, then sometime. What difference does it make if it is today or 10,000 years from now. If anything, the resources and manpower spent on massive space exploration are an untapped economic venture.

Actually, some South American countries have in the last several years, the most prominent being Brazil, and at least one European one has but I forget which. You can google it. Oh yes, as the article says - Britain.

But reporting on such a thing would take away media space from Paris and Lindsay. ;)  Its not like they actually report on everything our own government does..at least not until there's some awful tragedy that they can report on for a few days then forget again.

I love thinking about the possibilities of space and what the hell's out there, anything's possible.

Those who are sure nothing's out there are just as annoying as those crazy believers

I was listening to an interesting podcast on Universe Today that posed a hypothesis that human civilization as we know it has about 10 000 years left. Factors taken into account are things such as environmental degradation, resource consumption, desertification, population growth, and also looking at the rise and fall of previous now-extinct civilizations and such. Now, that's not a countdown to extinction but rather the predicted limit to how our civilization can sustain itself.

Interestingly enough, chances are the Earth will be destroyed long before the sun actually burns out. Chances are that as the sun enters the Red Giant phase of its life it will expand and swallow the Earth along with Venus and Mercury and possibly Mars as well. Also, due to the change in the distribution of mass (the sun's volume increases but it's mass stays the same) it's also possible that the gravitational change may eject Mercury and the inner planets from the solar system or send them crashing into each other. But, chances are that long before that happens another killer asteroid or comet will wipe out humanity.

In regard to the "end of the universe" it's interesting. What will happen is that in something like 25 billion years all available energy in the universe will have been used up and there will be nothing but an infrared hum. Everything won't disappear into a giant black hole though. Black holes evaporate and lose mass over time. So the current model for the end of the universe is that there will be no energy except for infrared radiation and an even distribution of matter dust throughout the universe.

So even if humans survive to see the end of the sun (something I doubt), in about 25 billion years the universe is going to be cold and dark.

    In short, we're all fucked.

I'd like to think gaining new knowledge should be sufficient motivation.

    Sadly, I know better.

The article says Britain declassified some UFO files. That's a far cry from documented "government interaction with extraterrestrial beings" in my book.

I'll be Googling the other stuff, though.

Mitchell also claims that a teenager in Vancouver who calls himself Adam Dreamhealer cured him of cancer, that he was never confirmed to actually have, via the long distance power of his mind. Just saying.
