Today was the first day of shooting for TF3. I know we have some fellow forum members that live near Gary, Indiana that were going to try and make it. I guess the suspense is killing me for some news on the new film. Did anyone make it out and were you able to snap some pics or get a peek at something?

If it had started, I think it would have been Second Photography. But I doubt that, so, I call he tell me.

They were supposed to be have shot pre-vis film at the old cement plant. According to this article Board OKs permit for 'Transformers 3' :: Lake County :: Post-Tribune it was a small shoot (no more than 60 people) on a closed set and would have featured vehicles (presumably some of the Autobots) driving up to the location.

If anyone went, we may not hear about it for a few days. Honestly, seeing as this was a closed set, it's not likely anyone was able to get close enough to snap any good spy photos or see anything particularly interesting.

Definitely, a closed set means that nobody who isn't a part of the film crew would be able to get up close and see what's going on.

I should know... a small, local film studio filmed a part of their low-budget horror film on my family's farm back in 2002, and they filmed a scene in the hayloft of our barn... and it was a closed set, meaning that none of us could be on set and watch them film the scene.

I've heard horror stories of closed sets on private property before, but I've heard that it happens quite often. Most times, a good contract between the owner(s) of the property and the movie guys keep things amicable (mostly something that states that the property will be returned to its original state after the crew is done with it).

Like yeah, we gave them permission. They were scouting for a farmhouse to film parts of their movie at, they saw our place and left us a note asking if they could film at our place and we called them back saying that yes we were willing to let them film at our place. I got to skip school the day they came out to film.
