can anyone tell me what this figure is. it is stamped Japan with no date. Just a little mind boggling to me

Not sure of the actual identity of the item, but it is clearly NOT a Transformers piece. And given the detail and VW's positions of the last decade, you could probably date it from the 80s or even 70s.

I've never seen that before (and I'm a Transformers AND VW fan), so I'm leaning towards some one off novelty toy

 

I thought of it as a cheap off brand of some kind and trew it to the side until I noticed the Japan stamp then I just wondered

 

I don't know, but it looks sorta like movie BB's fave peeking up there (yes, you have to squint a little, and maybe I'm just crazy).

 

you used to be able to get them in Canada at ESSO gas stations. i thing there are a few models, but i really only remember having a few of this guy. The surf boards do come off though.
