E-hobby exclusive figure. That's why it's so expensive.

Without sounding like a complete noob...What does that mean?

Could you only get them in Japan or from an event? Are they limited?

    Thanks

The simple explanation...e-hobby puts out limited edition, alternate color schemes of other TFs. Everything from G1 to BTs have been redone.

Most are limited to a few hundred so after they are released and sold out they are tough to find. They started as Japanese TF conventions with G1 figures like Hauler, Sunstorm, Jazz, Ironhide, etc. and really blossomed in recent times with the Takara and Hasbro G1 reissues.

However, some don't sell as quickly or they make a larger production run and the price doesn't skyrocket on them.

The extreme examples off the top of my head (I own almost every e-hobby exclusive of G1 toys) are Astrotrain, which originally was offerred for $40-$55 and quickly shot to selling for over $300 because he was in limited run and was highly demanded with his G1 accurate color scheme. Then you have the Hound recolor (Deitrius) that is just now going up a little in price, I paid $40 for him and he's going for about $50-$60 and is still available.

If you want to start collecting them now you're going to spend a ton of money. I am missing a handful of the G1 toys and just paid $115 for Ramjet, so they are quite pricey. Good luck.

It's never too late to start, but if you want to be a completist just know you have some catching up to do and you'll be spending some cash for them.

I have two left on my list and then I'll have them all (well, at least the G1 toys). Good luck.

Im collecting more for what i like than i am to get 100%.

When reviewing the G1 toys there are alot that i dont like the model or just feel there are too many copies of. So from that point i talked my self out of the notion of completing g1. (Which is a good thing....)

Now im just buying what i like and would like to display (which explains my ebaying RID scourge over the weekend)...

Looks like i can get the two i like for around 1 hundred each but im not sure if it is worth it.

What did these cost new? (approx?)

    Thanks for the info!

Im afraid to look further into them... I dont want to find anymore i like (Son-Of-A, i just saw a orange star-scream mold... Buy it now of 350ish...) not good...

Yeah, that orange mold is Sunstorm and he was one of the early seekers when e-hobby started all this. All of the seekers are available and there are several versions of Starscream...all very expensive nowadays.

Both Magnificus and Twincast were around $50-$60 when they first came out, since they are bigger toys.

If you want to see what e-hobby exclusives exist out there, here's a list of the G1 toys:

Magnificus (Perceptor) & Ga'mede (Microman figure)
Cobalt Sentries: Garboil (Buzzsaw) & Howlback (Ravage)
    Overcharge (Blitzwing)
    Insecticon Clone Army (Insecticons)
    Detritus (Hound)
    Minibots
    Astrotrain (gray/purple G1 cartoon colors)
    Sunstorm (orange seeker)
    Hauler (Grapple)
    Clampdown (white Sideswipe)
    Deepcover (black Sideswipe)
    Megaplex (Megatron)
    Chrome Bluestreak
    Road Rage (Tracks)
    Crosscut (Skids)
    Black hood Bluestreak
    Gold Jazz
    New Years Sideswipe
    New Years Red Alert
    Ironhide
    Ratchet
    Trailbreaker
    Thundercracker
    Starscream (regular G1 color scheme)
    Ramjet
    Dirge
    Thurst
    Inferno
    Skywarp
    Ghost Starscream
    Black Starscream
    Ghost Hot Rod
    Black Hot Rod
Orion Pax & Dion (Targetmaster Kup & Wheelie)
    Tigertracks (yellow Sideswipe)
    Black Megatron
Galvatron (grey color scheme w/ gold trim)
    Twincast (Blaster) w/ Flipsides (Eject)
Hybrid G1 Convoy (black Optimus Prime)

There are more but they are really exclusive and tough to find (ie: black Tracks and black Sixshot) but not all of those were e-hobby exclusives.

That, at least, gives you a good idea of what's out there. Have fun.

Wow. that is a long list. (Im kind of happy it is long bc it rules out the idea of 100%'ing it...)

But, i think twincast, magnificus and dare i say sunstorm will be on my 'watch list' for a while.

The nice thing about all the buy it now auctions is it sets a ceiling price.. Im going try and get twin and mag for around 80ish as my max.... We will see if it can be done with enough patience

Magnificus seems to be another generic black repaint, although the inclusion of the Gey'wog figure is something new and different.

That seems a reasonable price for those toys, I'd definately check out the Junkion exchange here, you may find them for around that price. Patience is the key.

And, just a little more background...

Most the earlier e-hobby toys were based on the G1 Japanese cartoons and/or offshoots from the cartoon. That's why the e-hobby toys aren't Autobots and Deceptcions - they are Destrons and Cybertrons. Characters like Hauler and Sunstorm appeared once in the US cartoons and may have become comicbook characters later on - but they never played a major role in the TF G1 television series.
