Got Grapple last month and Wreck Gar today and they both had lots of flaky paint right out of the package. Grapples yellow on his head is the worst and the shiny red on Wreck Gars chest has quite a few spots where it came off. Just wondering if this is a common problem with the United line.

Dang, I've heard the paint was easy to scratch, but flaking right off?

I would love to get an answer about this. I just decided I was going to get some of the United figures.

I treat my United figures extremely delicately. My WfC Prime has a few flakes, right out of the box, and my Tracks has a nasty scratch, also out of the box, along the top of his chest. I'm not very confident in the robustness of the finish.

It seems they used the black-cast head, and just painted it. Apparently quite a few Grapples have been found with paint issues.

Only United toy i've got so far is Lugnut. The yellow paint on the air intakes is a little sloppy in one spot.

Yeah my Bumblebee (Classics) had paint off his face right out of the package. Not sure if the paint continue to flake off though, I'm not paying much attention TBH. I wouldn't have cared if I didn't take any closeup shots.

I'm just gonna be really careful handling them. I usually let my 3 year old mess with my Transformers (even the expensive ones), but on these 2 it seems like they may have used a paint that doesn't adhere very well to the plastics used. I'm not picking up any of the other United figures (except maybe Voyager Megs and Laser Prime) as I have the Generations/RTS versions of most these new molds, so hopefully by the next Japanese Classics line they switch to something that sticks better.

I only have 2 United and 1 Takara Animated figure.

Voyager Megatron- Wouldn't have this problem
Tracks- No scratches/chips from what I can tell. When I took it out of the package, this HUGE piece of chipped paint was just in the box but I'm not sure where it came from? I inspected Tracks top to bottom and could find nothing:crazy:

Animated Rodimus- A few chips but that's from me screwing around with his legs.:banghead:

Huh, I got Kup, Tracks, Jazz, and Wreck Gar, with no problems. I am a little wary of scratching them during transformation, but no problems out of package.

No problems with my Tracks or Blurr. Megatron's silver is the standard stuff, so I'm not worried about it, and the candy-coat red is largely out of the way and recessed, so it's not in any risk of damage.

I couldn't care less if the metallic red on Wreck-Gar got damaged, the shiny red is just dumb looking as far as the character is concerned.

What I usually does with Japanese releases. They're encased in their "tombs" forever! :lol

If I needed a toy for playing, I look up to US release, which is often more wallet-friendly.

Nothing so far with my Lugnut, Megs, Soundwave, or Tracks. Blurr's incoming by Saturday from Toy Arena so we'll see what happens there. Kup and some others won't show up until I ship my PoL in April-ish.

If this is widespread, WOW, I mean with United figures you are basically overpaying by $30-$40 for the shiny paint, which is really the only thing that distinguishes them from the Hasbro line(unless you are also buying them as some petty attempt at feeling superior to those who purchase the Hasbro figs((which you can find at a store(((where your fellow citizens earn their living working))) for about ten dollars)), in which case, that's just dumb). I find it hard to justify the purchase myself, except on rare occasions when it makes sense, like United Scourge and his Hasbro Sweeps, but this makes me dislike the line even more. The paint looks very gaudy imho anyway.

Shiny paint is lame and the idea of overpaying for it...
