OpenOffice.org has something to similar to PowerPoint called Impress and it can save files as .ppt. It's free.

Just make sure when you save the files, you save them in PPT format. Impress is pretty good.

Yes Impress is pretty good thats what I use when I don't have power point.

    Other options:

    1)Borrow a friends power point.
    2)Borrow the schools power point.
3)Say it was stolen by hackers jk

When using impress make sure you save the file in a microsoft/power point format or power point will not be able to open it.Same thing goes if your using any other software form open office and vice versa. Although I think power point can open impress files.

Actually what I did in 6th grade worked out perfectly. We had to do a powerpoint in one week. The teacher announced it on Monday and she gave us 'till friday to finish it up.

Unfortunately I was incredibly sick the weekend and out Mon-Wed, I came back on Thursday and despite the fact I was out, my due date for the project was on Friday also. No extension on it at all. How was I supposed to get this done in 2 days along with the shit ton of work I had to do?

My solution: I created a corrupted file by opening a Powerpoint presentation in wordpad, deleted a bunch of words and symbols, saved it, and saved it to my flashdrive.

On friday I go to the computer, I plug in my flashdrive, open that file up in powerpoint and as expected, the words "File could not be open" popped up. I called the teacher over, made up some techy BS speech on how I couldn't open it (She's like in her later 60's, she had little knowledge about a computer and I was the class computer-geek for getting everything set up) and she said it's alright and I didn't have to do it. Fucking Genius :lolol

Back on topic, yeah if you don't have MSPP Impress is a good alternative. Google Documents has a Powerpoint program if you own a Gmail account.

    Isn't this a technology topic?

when is your assignment due? (i am just curious.)
either way, using Impress at home or PP at school, you still have to merge your parts in with the rest of the group's work.

Since PP has everything you need to edit text, just take the prepared text to school (even before school starts, go to the library) copy paste and relax.

The problem with doing it at school, which my group mates told me I should do is, is you have to wait forever for a computer to free up.

There is one main computer lab free for use, and 4 other computer labs that are usually reserved for classes. But I go to a huge university and I am on the "East" Campus which is located in the Uni hospital towers. The main main computer labs are on the West campus library and it's like a trek to get there and I don't even know if I would have access since my log in is for the hospital computers.

If you have a google/gmail account, you can use docs.google.com to build word documents, spreadsheets, and presentation files online for free
