I hear something new everyday and never get tired of the reasons they give for breaking laws.

If ya don't mind me asking, what's the funniest excuse for something yet?

And no, I'm not gonna pretend I'm a 100% law abiding citizen, far from it. But I just love hearing some of the silly shit people come up with.

Well I had a woman tell me she fell asleep over at her boyfriends house and was very late getting home to her husband. Then you get the ones that are like "I have an family member thats in the hospital about to die. You can tell if these people are legit or not and if I think they are lying I will tell them I can give them a police escort there and they come clean.

Photo cops have been ruled unconstitutional in Minneapolis and all the tickets issued by them reversed. The city ordinance was overturned because prosecutors didn't have to to prove that the car's owner was actually driving the vehicle that was photographed going through the red light.

Agreed. If I was a cop, you would get a ticket and maybe tasered for trying to lie to me :gen069:  that's probably why they wouldn't let me be a cop.

Thank goodness I live in Canada and don't have to deal with that crap. However, our roads are in terrible shape, and "photocops" and toll booths would actually generate some revenue to keep them in decent shape.

Round here some people use masking tape to change the numbers/letters on their plates.

Not that I do that sort of thing of course.......

    Fuck it.

Either way, I think I've found my way out. I'm a minor and the car is in my father's name. Legally, even though the ticket will obviously be mailed to the owner of the car, the owner cannot be charged if they were not driving at the time. In addition, the owner is in no way obligated to identify the driver of the car, and since the ticket must be issued to the person driving the car, the charges must be dropped.

..not only covered plates, but flipping the bird and driving with a minor as passenger.

The guy did get caught and got all sorts of charges. What a prime example to set when driving with your son in the car....

Until your parents WHOOPS YO ASS once they get the notification.
SRY but your teenage logic of 'I was not there/must have been my friend' does just not hold up in court, especially not if you were caught on camera.

Been there, done that, only by proxy though.

    BTW, your sig intrigues me.........

    a) I told my parents less than 5 minutes after it happened. I'm not stupid enough to think the problem will go away by hiding information.

    b) It doesn't matter how bullshit MY argument is. After reading the information I posted in my last post, I'm not even going to be the one in court. All my dad has to do is show the judge the photo of someone else driving the car (assuming it's even mailed to me, it was raining on that night), decline to identify the driver, and I should be safe. They CANNOT charge the owner of the car if the owner wasn't the one driving because the penalty goes on the DRIVER'S personal record.

I'm not attacking you, nor have I given you any justification to attack me. I started this thread to get some advice on how to avoid a $400 ticket that, despite how unlikely my story evidently sounds, should not be issued. What you've done is turned this into a full fledged assault on someone you don't even know, for the sole purpose of making yourself feel like a bigger person.

I'm done defending myself, thanks to all who actually offered some words of wisdom and not malice.

Like I said earlier, the problem with these is the owner of the car has a burden of proof to prove they weren't driving their car at the time of the photo. Erosion of due process FTL.

Ok, now you're counting on daddy to get you out of a ticket? He's going to get the ticket in the mail, see the picture with you driving, and probably get pissed.

Seriously man, just suck it up and take the ticket. You're only going to make things worse if you try to weasel your way out of it and fail.

Holy crap do I have to make this speech in every thread about laws 'n shiz?

Laws exist to uphold and enforce certain ethical ideas that we as a society have deemed important. Laws are not and should not be enforced for the sake of the law. In the case of driving it is sometimes safer to go through on an amber light then slam the brakes and skid halfway across the intersection. When it comes down to it the main point of traffic laws is to make the roads as safe as possible for everyone. Automatic cameras are great but they lack the judgment of a real person.

That said, Alex, sometimes you just gotta suck it up and let life pound you in the ass.
