The die-cast Evangelion figure with the removable armor? And if you do, could I see pictures of it?

Is that thing out already? It looked pretty cool in the pictures I saw, but I'd like to know if it's worth it first. I already have the Kaiyodo Eva 01, the Revoltech Eva 01, and the SOC Eva 01, so I'm not sure I need another Eva anyway.

So it's: stay with the SoCs and Revoltechs then ?

How did it break? it looked pretty sturdy from the pics we saw earlier!

Sorry man, no pictures of mine, but go here

    http://toycan.net/gallery/robot/960/

The figure may feel week because you need to snap off some parts on ball joints (waist, the knees, the heels, the head and others) but it's extremely sturdy and stable. There's a lot of die-cast on the figure and tons of articulation points. It's more articulated than the Revoltech figure and it's a different mould from the regular SOC evas (taller, bulkier, more articulated). Definitely a worthy purchase.

Out of interest, what's the story behind the swords? I've never seen them in the anime, were they in the manga?

No they weren't in the show or the manga, I think I heard they were from some of the original production designs originally but I really dont know.

Hmm, doing a random search on youtube turns up the "Magorok E Sword":

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYbhhMlUvcE

I'm guessing that it must be one of those "game" things, probably originated in the Girlfriend of Steel titles or something. At any rate it gets used in SRW, though like you said, it probably came from the earlier designs.

The holster / scabbard for it on the XS-01 is very nice, too. I've definately never seen that before, but it fits right in which is cool.

There's an artbook for Evangelion called Sore wo nasumono that includes drawing and information about the swords. I flipped through an Evangelion manga at one time, and I remember seeing the Angel body of the Evangelion, and I thought I remembered seeing the Unit-01 equipped with the swords at one point.

omg, a naked evangelion. the world has no mystery anymore.

err, I mean YAY NAKED METAL EVA DOLLS!!!1

also, one of the older action figures (I think it may have been bandai or sega that made them) had the swords; neat idea.

It's pretty rare for an EVA-01 release to not have the swords.

The LM-HG ones have them, I'm pretty sure the PG has them, the Revoltech has them, the Kaiyodo figure has them, the SOC has them, and now the SOC-Spec has them.

Wow. That figure is my nexy SoC purchase. It radiates pure awesome.

Seeing the body of the eva, I do wonder where his mouth is. I mean, that particular eva is known for roaring and eating angels like a wild animal. The mouth can't be just in the helmet, can it?

Well, the "head" of Eva-01 has some morphing tendencies, as seen in the only episode where the head is visible, and an eye "glorps" (for lack of a better term) out of a flat, featureless brown blob of a head.

    Also, anime magic

Any more reviews? I'm probably going to order this as it looks to be one of the best representations of Eva-01 I've ever seen (Next to the PG model, but I want something more action figure like).

BTW, they are doing another version of it called I guess the Spec 400% version, which is in reference to a very famous couple of scenes from the series.

    Check out the video.

You guys want a review of my broken XS-01.

Good job with the quality control there Bandai. Having one of the leg joints break while trying to get it in a cool pose isn't good for business. IMHO I'd avoid all future releases UNTIL they make the joints in a toughter plastic.

Here's some pics of my XS-01 with the crumbled hip joint.
