I received my w-2 electronically yesterday so I sat down and completed my federal tax return (no state tax in FL). Getting more back this year than I expected. How about you?

I already did and have gotten my return. It's nice because it's the same employer as last year, so it made it a sinch.

Edit: I completely forgot, and totally bullshitted: I haven't gotten my W2s yet, I just used my last paystub of the year and the Employer ID form my last year's taxes. My bad.

In Canadiana, we have to wait until the end of February to receive our T4 and file our taxes.

I'm in no rush, because I know I will owe some, just like every year :(

How does not having state income affect things? Do they still take state taxes? ( i always wanted to know that)

You dont have to have W2s at all? Just last paystub?

I gotta wait for W2s from school, renter rebate....and i should get some nice change...

Yup. When having your taxes prepared at H&R Block or Jackson Hewitt (never tried this method when e-filing with Turbo Tax) all you need is the last check stub of the year.

Waiting for the W-2s. I owed money the past two years, but that was mainly due to being on unemployment. Not an issue this time, so I'm hopeful for some payback.

Haven't gotten my W2, 1099s or the tax paperwork for my investment accounts yet, but I'm expecting most or all of that by the end of January and then I'll do my return. Not sure whether I'll get any money back or not this year, since this is the first complete tax year I've been in this state. I'm hoping I have to pay a little, rather than getting a refund, though; means I didn't give the government an interest-free loan last year.

Why is anyone happy about getting money back?

Maximize it so u owe next to nothing or get very little back at the end of the year.

Why give anyone your money for a yr and it doesnt benefit you at all?

Adjust your withholding and keep your own money in your own pocket where it belongs.

It even makes your paycheck bigger every week and it does a lot more for u in a crappy savings account than in someone elses hands.

Dunno what I will get back this year. I know it will be less, think I'm up to 7 items for withholding now. Got a good tax guy as well.

I will show as Mechanic, Production Tech, Drag Racer and Landlord on my filings this year as well as the normal suff like Head of Household.

If u do not have one and u make decent money and got serious hobbies and the like finding a "real" accountant can make a huge dent in your return. I also do not mean H&R block or Jackson Hewitt and the like(although there are prolly some good ones there too)

Anyone near Chicago/Joliet/Nw In area want a good accoutant name PM me for it.

I know for me, tax time is that one time a year where, if I choose, I can do a little splurging. That makes it a time to look forward too.

    Your missing my point.

Any money u get back should have been working for you already. Not in someone elses pockets for 12 mths................

If your getting a refund, its been overpaid in the first place.
