Just curious. Is there any footage of this anywhere? Has anyone seen any? Was he any good?
I didn't know he did stand up. Interesting.
Oh yes. He did it in New York before ever even doing any voice acting work. I believe Flint Dille (a Producer for the Sunbow G1 cartoon) stated this in the special features of the DvD release of Transformers:the Movie.
I don't know he is a stand-up comedian that why Starscream make Megatron laugh.
Yeah they mention it on his wikipedia page. I tried looking online for some clips but so far no dice. I would like to have seen some of his act.
Me too man. Ive literally looked everywhere. The only time Ive even seen Mr. Latta irl was in a StarTrek: TNG episode. He was dressed as a Klingon Captain in the ep. "A Matter of Honour"...I think(pretty hilarious to see Starscream yelling at Jean Luc Picard). I would also LOVE to see his act...
Ok now I know what show I am going to try to watch tonight.
Too bad there is not much media stuff with him online.
No there sure isent man. Its eally ashame.
If anyone does have any Chris Latta footage please share here with us...
He did stand up? I never knew.
lol..yep. Read my above posts bro.
Not standup exactly, but if you wanna see Chris with various alien make-up on, don't forget he appeared in Star Trek several times...
Klingon Captain in "A Matter Of Honour" (TNG) - when Riker serves on the Klingon ship.
Pakled Captain in "Samaritan Snare" (TNG) - the stupid "We look for things" aliens
and two episodes of DS9, "Passenger" and "Blood Oath" - can't remember which aliens.,
Holy crap, REALLY?
He was also on seinfield in the subway one and tried too mug kramer.(Also I've seen some he was really good)
A Matter of Honor: YouTube - A Matter of Honor
Samaritan Snare: YouTube - TNG 2x17 Samaritan Snare Trailer
I never knew.
Thanks for posting that! Listening to the Capt, yea, it's a toned-down Starscream/Cobra Commander... and the 2IC is that dude that seems to pop up everyd*where in SF-dom - Brian Thompson. If there's a SF show, he's on it at least once, it seems
Yeah thats awesome , thanks guys. I still would LOVE to see his comedy work though.
Never saw the stand up, but he did make an appearance in a Seinfeld Episode, as a thug when Kramer wins money and Chris Latta tries to mug him in the subway. It was just on a few weeks ago actually. It's funny because when he talks, it sounds like Gung Ho from Gi Joe
A number of cartoon voice actors got their start as stand-up comedians (some of them were "discovered" that way), and some of them still do standup on occasion. I'll just throw out a few names for starters:
Maurice LaMarche -- I have an old VHS tape I won off ebay years ago that features one of Moe's bits from 1986. You could tell even then he was destined for voiceover greatness. Here's another of his stand-up bits from 1990 (caution: adult language, but funny):
I would love to have seen Latta's stand-up as well. I imagine he was pretty edgy and outrageous. With the characters he did and that unique voice along with his reported wild nightlife, I just can't see him doing a typical monologue. I'll do some research on that to see if I can come up with anything. I've been told by a close friend of Frank Welker's that his stand-up stuff was totally off-the-wall nutty hilarious stuff--like watching an impressionist on acid.
The specific Seinfeld episode Latta was in is Season 3, Episode 13 "The Subway". I've had that disc on my Netflix queue for a while and keep forgetting to bump it up.
Separate names with a comma.
