Anyone ever built their own "flexi display" for model/toy planes/spaceships?

Was wondering if anyone ever had the idea to build one of these (or similiar) for their toy ships to display? 18 bucks a pop seems steep to me.

It could be used for something like this:

Never thought about it. It could probably be pretty easy to do with legos, actually...

I would agree that $18 sounds a bit steep.

Hmm, never thought about making them. Might not be too hard, actually.

I bought a bunch of those, they're actually pretty good. You just have to be careful at stripping the screws that keep the arms in place. I bought 13 of them but botched one in said way.
