I preordered Fort Max a while ago at Nippon Yasan. They charge shipping up front and I paid ¥5200 just for shipping. It is in stock now, but they say it is bigger than expected and want ¥4900 additional shipping. Did this happen to anyone else? I am probably just going to cancel it and get the Hasbro version. I was ok with spending more on the Takara version, but $130 more than the Hasbro version doesn't really seem worth it to me.

Yup, check out the two Fort Max threads in the news and rumors section and you'll see the same thing happened to a few of us. I e-mailed them to cancel my order, so we'll see if they do it peacefully or not.

I once tried ordering something from a foreign (pretty sure Asian) online shop, I don't recall which one, and after paying for it they asked me to send them a scanned image of the front & back of my credit card. At that point I just cancelled the order.

I got my UW Devastator from Nippon Yasan with no problem. I have ordered several things from HLJ and Anime Export. I am not scared of making international purchases. This is the first time that they have asked me for more money after I already paid.

I bought two of the UW Devastators from them last year and the shipping never changed on me from that order, and I paid that months in advance as well.

Yep same here. Got the 2 Devys with no problem from them. Also ordered 2 Fort Maxes from them and now they want another $136 in shipping, when I already paid ~$80 shipping.

Yup. I didn't preorder. It was in stock and they charged 5200 yen for shipping. Now they want another 4900 yen. It was in stock.. It's not my fault they didn't weigh the damn thing. I asked to cancel. If that fails, off to PayPal I go.

This is some real bulls**t. If they don't cancel for me, I will open paypal disputes for all my orders with NY and never shop there again.

I'm just waiting for a "no" response from them so I can open a dispute.

Just to let you folks know, I know some online dealers/website people that are having trouble selling their Japanese Fort Maxs. Apparently, they've ordered them from China (Hasbro Asia) and, although this is usually cheaper for vendors to use for wholesale ordering, in this case, they are suddenly finding the price of shipping for these items only going up.

You might find that Hong Kong based sellers might start dumping these later on, due to their possibly protected (and thus cheaper) shipping costs, allegedly courtesy of the Chinese government.

I'm no expert in this area, though, but there seems to be a problem with shipping and possibly repercussions, linked to Hong Kong and/or the size of the toy (actual weight versus dimensions).

NY is based in Japan, so they should be getting them from there. The point is back when we ordered, I took Metroplex's dimensions and added the weight that BBTS and got something pretty close to what NY quoted. I paid in yen at the time, so the shipping should still be roughly the same and the exchange rate now shouldn't matter as much, since NY would pay the shipping in yen as well. Now they are coming back asking for SIGNIFICANTLY more money. My new cost is now almost 3 times as much the original shipping quote ($79 vs $220) Hell, one person here ordered it while it was in stock and then got hit with an additional shipping charge later. If NY was a stand up company they would either allow us to cancel our orders, or if I was them, eat the shipping cost difference to retain current customers. I started using them exclusively, but depending on the outcome, will be dropping them completely.

You should be allowed to cancel pre-orders. In the future, I recommend Hobby Link Japan.

That was me. They canceled my order for me. Hopefully the money returns in time for BBTS's stock...

My order was canceled as well, but now my go to U.S store is sold out with only BBTS and TFSource having open preorders, and I'd rather not go to either of those stores. :lol

Better them than NY's highway robbery shipping!

HLJ has him in stock, but he's $200 plus $78 shipping, which is reasonable for the size, but not as good as BBTS and TFS..

Yeah, but I REALLY try to avoid those stores as much as possible. :lol

I only use BBTS if no other place carries what I want, and TFSource, well....it's TFSource.
