After reading a retail store work secrets thread, I'm quite ready to give it a shot sometime.

I work for one of the largest Grocery chains in the Unites States. Hell my store is about three blocks south of Corporate HQ.

    Kroger.
If I had a Car, I'd have quit by now.

I work for Publix, which is a fairly big grocery chain in the southeastern United States. You can't turn a corner in Florida without seeing a Publix. It's like the Starbucks of Florida. It's growing in other states, however. I work at one in Alabama.

Been there, done that. Never really enjoyed working in a corporate setting.

Not sure how familiar people south of the brim are about Canadian Tire, but its basically one of our more abundant a department stores that deal largely in automotive & hardware, but that also cover stuff like housewares, sports & seasonal stuff. I worked in the Automotive parts department for a couple of years, much of which has to do with retail... so yeah hah. Add me to the pot!

ah fond memories.. busting open bags of candy. guzzling warm beer in the back. changing the dates on food and medicine in hopes someone gets sick. OK that last one was a joke. Although I did manhandle all the magazines and if I wanted a Hot Wheels it'd be a cold day in hell if I paid for it. This was close to 20 years ago btw. I've matured ever so slightly since then.

I've worked for Walmart and am currently employed at Best Buy and Toys R Us while waiting for word from Walmart again. Plus AAFES and MWR for the military overseas. I've been around the block a few times haha.

I've worked for Target for the past six years. Which is about five and a half years longer than I expected to work for Target.

Awww retail ... fuck I do NOT miss it.

Retail was the perfect job for those high school and college years. I actually met my soon to be wife working together at PetCo (which was probably my favorite retail job).

I worked at Dick's Sporting Goods through college mostly and that job was a very typical retail gig. The goal was to punch in and then do as little work as fucking possible ... and then punch out.

I hope my kids work retail because it teaches you some serious life lessons and patience. I have absolute respect for people who are career retail workers because they put up with some SHIT.

Done my time in retail. It's a great opportunity to learn how the economy really works (supply v. demand, marketing, product placement, discretionary vs. impulse shopping, customer service, etc.) but I contend that most people should get out at the 7 - 10 year mark.

Do they pay you in CT dollars? And do you still find them in every drawer in your house?

I used to work for CompUSA and Union 76. Loved the discounts on the former and have no intention on going back to the latter. Like someone, I may try AAFES since my current job doesn't want part-timers anymore (returned back to school).

Worked at Wal-Mart when I was a teen, and I even worked at TRU for around a month. Combined, they taught me that retail couldn't be my thing outside of possibly being a GM, and even that didn't seem too appealing to me. Customers can be such d-bags, especially when kids are involved.
