i hate twilight. its poorly written and uses the most obvious mary sue in the book.it doesn't even follow the rules of vampires. plus, the fanbase is an ignorant pile of dog crap. anyone else have similar feelings?
Not as much as I hate people who obsess over how much they don't like something that's probably not for them anyways...
*Raises hand* *REEEEALLY HIGH* Really stupid how you made it seem like whoever likes it is ******ed though...
I'm pretty sure its geared towards adolescent females, so I don't hate it as much as I'm not in its demographic. I don't see any real reason to hate it when it isn't meant for an adult male. EDIT: Oh, I would like to add though that it was a bit annoying and surprising to see that when one of the main actors got a haircut, it made top headlining news on sites like yahoo and MSN.
I hate it when people get their opinions off the internet and then regurgitate it to seem cool. I trust that you are somewhat of a scholar and in a good position to declare the text as being "poorly written." Any what exactly is a "mary sue?" Don't use google either, that's cheating.
Heads up, boss, you might wanna check your own mastery of the English language before mocking anything as written poorly.
Can't honestly say that I give enough of a shit about Twilight to hate it. I remember these opinions among geekdom when Harry Potter first appeared. It was all "OMG Rowling stole Neil Gaiman's character!" Also, the idea that genres such as vampires must remain "pure" is just utterly bullshit. Where was the internet when when Nosferatu established vampires dying from sunlight.
Isn't it a concern that people are getting brutaly beaten by fans just because the don't like twilight? I know I'm not part of the demographic but c'mon, if people are getting attacked because of a BOOK, then why not hate it.
I hate Mary Sue stories period. Girls think it's sad how a man will fantasize about being with supermodel yet a woman will write an entire series about her fantasies with a teenage vampire who cares about her for no reason at all. Now that's what I call sad.
I hate it. The lady who writes it can't write to save her life. I don't even wanna rant on how much I think it sucks. I just...hate it.
My 13 year old daughter and niece love the books and the movie. They own T-shirts, posters, etc of the property, which I now use to tease my daughter with. She used to pick on me fro collecting Transformers, but no longer, I pointed out to her that she's MUCH more obsessed than I am.
If I actually bothered to read it, I don't think I'd like it considering what I've heard. I however haven't read them, so I don't get that bent out of shape about it.
I personally hate it, however I can respect and tolerate other peoples opinions on the book whether it be good or bad. One example is my best friend who saw the movie with his GF & liked it but I don't let that ruin our friendship. What I can't tolerate however is people beating others up or threatening them over not liking it.
Much as I dislike it, poorly written as it is, irregardless of how much it bastardized vampires...at least it's better than Eragon, plaigaristic tripe..
Although I can't recall the exact title, there was an online article which analysed Twilight and discussed why it was bad and she received death threats in the comments section. Usually that would be my stance. Not with Twilight. It is the most sexist, shovanistic, self-inserting, unhealthy book I have ever read, and I consider myself well read. Hell, it's worse then Taming of the Shrew. The attraction between the two main characters is he's hot, and she smell's nice. They meet because she's a clumsy, delicate little flower and he always has to ride in on his white horse to save her. When they are apart, she almost commit suicide. If she is with friends she doesn't approve of, he downright abuses her and she waves it away with the backbone of dangerously abusive relationships everywhere: "...he only does it because he loves me..." The main character is nothing short of a blank slate, devoid of any depth or flaws, aside from her clumsiness. This allows a sad, fat 3oyr old woman dissatisfied with her marriage/husband, to slide seamlessly into the main character's shoes. Let's face it, that's unhealthy.
