Anyone else ever feel they should leave them grey?

I don't like the gray. I like the fruity proto colors. Those are fun.

Lol, I know what you mean. The gray color brings out all the details of the sculpt/design and sometimes, it looks pretty awesome.

There's many times I've thought that, but I'm just curious which figure made you create this thread. I'm sure there's more than one but which is the straw that broke the camels back?

...we have the same problem with architectural models: schematic design is always clean-sheet white, sometimes with supplemental balsa, sheet metal, or translucent plexiglass depending upon how physical we take things at that stage, and then the transition to real-world materials and color selections can be a shocking juxtaposition against the pristine design sensibilities different stakeholders envisioned in their minds...
    ...howling meteor, of course!..

    I don't think that would be a "grey"-t idea.

No because I like color but also because the grey resin prototypes are usually super loose and poorly toleranced. =)

If it’s that big a deal for you, buy a spray can of automotive primer (get the stuff for plastic bumpers and mirrors) and give your figures a spray. The result will be almost exactly the same as a grey prototype. Not sure why you’d want to though. Unless you happen to be one of those amazing customisers we see around here occasionally, even the worst official paint job is probably going to be miles ahead of any colour you can apply at home.

Yeah, it happens. TFC has done that plenty of times. Prototypes looked decent, and then they stuff translucent red everywhere. ToyWorld's Kup looked pretty good... until they coloured it (and the QC and such aside).

I would even like to get some grey prototypes just to play with, though it'll probably never happen.

I don't like the grey, it's dull and rough and gets everywhere.

I love Hayden! Now I have to watch a Star Wars movie because of your slightly disguised reference- yes I said it. I love Hayden Christensen!

Also I have to agree, sometimes the flat gray protos look amazing.

I'm pretty sure that's how the grey prototypes are made. They actually look like a Hodge podge of plastic colors and materials and they spray it grey for consistency and to bring out the mold detail. I've seen some prototypes where they " missed a spot" or it was faint and you could see plastic color through.

So OP did you want molded grey plastic? You can just spray with plastic paint.
