If they had an HD-DVD drive add on for the PS3 I would contemplate it but honestly, I don't want to support that format at all. Doesn't look like I will be missing out on much extra content, and the DVD transfer should be pretty good so an upconverted DVD should be good enough for me. At least until the blu-ray version comes out in two years.

Yeah...good luck with that. They do make hybrid players, you know. What you just said is like saying "I'm going to mod my CD player to play DVDs".

The xBox 360 add-on is only $179. It includes King Kong. You get an additional 5 free movies from a rather mediocre list, but not bad. So the price isn't the issue. I just know I'd want to purchase more films for my newfangled HD DVD player, and before I'd know it, I'd have $300-$600 invested in HD DVD movies. So my concern of course is what the hell I'm going to do with all those movies if Blu-Ray wins the war and HD DVD goes the way of the Betamax. One can't assume combo players will remain on the market forever...

    Thoughts?

I was going to get the movie and a Blu-Ray player for Christmas to go along with my new HD-TV setup but with the movie's Blu-Ray plans shelved I'm just sticking with the regular DVD version for now.

    I'm tempted.

So sorely tempted. I'm assuming that the VGA cable I'm currently using with my 360 will look pretty much the same as an HDMI connection of a standalone HD player.

But yeah, I don't want to drop £800 (which works out around $1600 US) for a player yet, expecially since none can actually meet the maximum data transfer off their discs yet (not my information, I read it in a HD player grup test in What HI FI magazine).

So yeah, I want it, but cheaply. 360 seems to be the way to go.

Gads I wish there was only one f-ing format. I’m tempted to get the 306’s HD-DVD add on once I just got a new fangled HD TV but I hate the whole this movie is only in Blu, this movie is only in HD-DVD and if one of them dose die off I don’t want to be stuck with it and a gang of movies.

Yeah, but given the xBox's track record for longevity, it's going to die on me — it's just a question of when. At that point, I'll be left with a useless HD DVD player. Of course, if my xBox 360 dies anytime in the next 4 years, I'll pay to have it fixed. But after that? Probably not worth it.

This was the decider for me so yes. I was thinking about getting the HD DVD addon for the 360 and was waiting to see which format had the better edition of TF(at the time TF was slated for both formats. Just to cover myself I'm opting for the Blu Ray Drive in the Dell XPS 1710 I'm getting for graduation in June. That way I'm covered in both formats.

Absolutely not. There is nothing out there that will force me to buy either HD format prematurely.

I am more than content to wait for the war to be over, DVD is fine for now.

If my 360 didn't die, I would get the HD DVD add-on.

Anyway, no, I'm not getting an HD DVD player.

I'm buying the add-on just because of Transformers but NOT just for Transformers.

I'm getting the normal DVD as well as the HD-DVD because I want to be able to play it throughout the rest of the DVD players in my house or other people's houses.

But I definitely do want the best format so I will get it on HD-DVD

That's more of what I meant. I guess I wasn't very clear. Obviously I would buy other films besides just Transformers :p

Just because they're shunning an initial release on the Blu-Ray format, it doesn't mean that it's never going to happen. I think that it'd be foolhardy to make any impulsive purchases based on this current situation.

If I ever do, it will be a combo unit that supports both formats. I've already bought some BluRays so I'd want the system to play both. So I wouldn't get the 360 add on. Besides, I heard it's noisy and sucks the breath out of you when you sleep.
