This was posted in the TF Wiki:

So is Soundwave a really a Tripple Changer? Or Hasbro's edit to the toy?
Sorry if it's not legit, or if it's old.

As far as I can tell, Soundwave's only a Triple Changer as far as turning his jet-mode wings in the opposite direction results in a 'satellite altmode'.

i think he changes formes like bumblebee, not a triple changer. But rather make him into two separate toys they made him into one probably since no kid really wants a transformer that transfomers into a satellite lol. I also think he has a voyager toy since hasbro will be banking on his popularity in this film.

    I agree with Natchtsider.

Soundwave's not a true triple-changer, with 2 distinct alt modes. It's more like he's a Cybertronian Satellite, with a reconnaissance mode with wings folded, and a travel mode with wings extended.

Hasbro will of course, try to cash in by calling him a Triple-Changer

I'll second the general idea, he has a satellite form that in turn has a flight mode itself, but it's not a true transformation.

There's no way you could possibly be serious with this remark. Is there? If so. *facepalm*

A satellite that just hangs in space isn't a fun toy, so they made it so it can also be a space jet looking thing.

I could be wrong, but I think we'll see Soundwave pick up an earth form. The triple changer toy is likely just to avoid a shelfwarming satellite figure that no little kid wants.

On another note, if the plan is definitely to use triple changers in TF3, let's hope Hasbro is warming up now. I can just picture the thread if it's revealed that each triple changing character will get two figures: one to transform into one alt mode, and another to transform into the other alt mode.

I says back last year that are any Triple Chargers, but Bob says like the idea and put in Transformers 3 (maybe will called "Rise of Primus!")

Like opening the gull-wing doors on a car makes it fly. Or so M.A.S.K. would like us to believe. At least Back to the Future didn't try that trick when flying the DeLorean in later films.

Like it's been said above it's most likely going to try and keep kids entertained, I would love for an earth form soundwave toy and ravage also.

They have mentioned doing the Triple-Changer idea for TF3. If they do, let's bring on Astrotrain & Blitzwing.

astrotrain would be difficult to translate to live action, scale issues and what have you. octane would be more likely.

They could make it work, so far Michael Bay has pulled off bringing the Transformers to the big screen, then to bring the COnstructions and the Fallen to the big screen too, maybe they might be able to pull of Astrotrain as well. Also, what about Blitzwing?

That's not likely either. A 747 is much larger than a tanker truck.

Would probably have to be an all-new TF as a triplechanger using alts that matched better size-wise. But maybe with a 'homage' nameslap just to keep some fans happy.

Blitzwing strikes me as being the only viable Triple Changer for Bayformers.
