I myself always enjoyed reading the bio's on the back of the box to give me a general idea of what the character is like if I haven't already seen them in the movie/shows, it would give them a little bit of extra depth if they needed it or a bit of back story and I liked that.

The new bios it seems are focused on the bot's and con's battle skills. I don't want to read about what they're like in battle, that's what the tech specs are for, for crying out loud!

It seems like Prime toys are getting a bit better about that, but anybody else here with me? Give me character traits, give me back story, don't give me a paragraph on how a robot uses the weapon it's packaged with or how badass they are.

I've pretty much given up on characterization and modern transformers. G1 or GTFO.

I miss the G1-era bios. They managed to tell us a lot about each character while keeping things succinct. Hasbro should bring them back, along with the graph-style Tech Specs that required the red plastic decoders to read.

I don't know if I have read one bio since getting back into Transformers in 2007, so I couldn't tell you if they have gotten better, worse, or anything. As long as the figure doesn't have two right hands or a missing foot, and looks good on the shelf, I am happy. Cant really get a whole lot of insight into a character in a couple paragraphs anyhow, if they aren't in any fiction, you would have to still create a whole lot of jumps in your head to give them depth as a character even with a few paragraphs in a bio. Guess I am just not into the fiction, just cool looking toys at the end of the day.

i have gotten into the habit of just making up the personality on figures that have a lacking bio.

either that or i get some help from TFWiki.

but yeah,i do miss the extra little bit of characterization that the G1 bios gave us.

I do wish the bios were a little longer, but the main thing I miss from the G1 bios is how they'd describe each character's unique weapon. Everyone wasn't just using 'lasers', 'missiles' or 'bombs' but they had individual weapons like fireball cannons, null-rays, glass gas, crustation rifles, etc.

They don't need decoders, but the upcoming FoC Deluxes have the graph-style Tech Specs again.

    Yep, agreed.

G.I.Joe is the same way now too. They used to really give you insight into the personality and some funny/quirky info about them. Hell, the new figs don't even have a filecard anymore - only a 3-4 sentence blurb.

The bios really are lacking in today's toy world. Reading some of the G1 bios I actually get a feel for WHO the character is. Today's bios are a marketing scheme. They focus a lot on the figure's rival and mention other toys in that current wave as well.

Don't need those. If eliminating the useless information can reduce the price if the toys I buy, I'm all for it.

I'm just glad they're not multi-lingual anymore for US releases.

I do miss the G1 Bios. I have many fond memories of going into toy stores and reading tech specs of new toys, whether I'd be able to buy them or not. A lot of them later on weren't in the show, so this was the only way to get to know the new guys!

They have been a bit too simplistic but since they seem to treat modern kids like morons (as if they have no reading comprehension)it does not surprise me. Most of my collection is G1 based anyway so I mentally apply the old Techspecs to the Generations figures.

Just the text would do. Dreamwave got those bios perfect. Why Hasbro doesn't just use the text from the old tech specs is beyond me. Those characterisations on the back of the G1 toy could turn an average toy into a favourite.

Even applying an old bot's tech spec to a new character would be acceptable if they felt they couldn't come up with a personality for the new bot.
