Well for one, they can't be called by their "rightful" names for copyright reasons, so begging isn't gonna change that. However to be fair, I get what you're saying about the "Not - ***" being sort of redundant, and how making up a new name (even a symbolic one like Defender) is favorable in its own right.

Because they're not not not-"so-and-so" characters. They're not official, so we put the "not" because their real names are not very fun to say. Like PP-07 Glorious Grenadier or whatever. It's not like we know they're the characters. We just call them not because they're technically not.

But regardless of which character they may be supposedly representing, they can't be marketed or sold by names Trademarked by Hasbro.

But people could sure use some variety: faux-Devastator, pseudo-Insecticons, Re-fake-tor, etc.

Exactly. Get creative. If you want to get away with copyright violation, at least be original.

I could care less, but I am getting sick of threads complaining about what other people name things.

I understand some terms grate on some folks nerves, but rather than call attention to it by making a thread, just ignore it.

    Tell that to "Autobot" Jazz?

Seriously though, I stopped legitimately caring about this stuff right around the time I stopped caring about wrestlers not being allowed to use their WWE names while working for other promotions & so on.

sure i get why the 3rd party company cannot call the product what they are based on, but I dont see why WE have to avoid copyright lawsuits cuz we cant be sued. We can call em what ever we want. To me only the people makeing the products can't call them by their insperation sources.

similarly, i'm tired of all the recent 'this ain't ...' porn parodies, sure the old parody porns have low production values, but at least they spent some time trying to come up with clever names.

You mean like Saving Ryan's Privates? I remember hearing that on an episode of Student Bodies back in the day & it still makes me laugh.

I don't use the alternate names. I refer to FP Munitioner and Explorer as FP Swindle and Blast-Off, respectively.

Apparently, I pissed someone off so much that they wrote an angry PM shortly after Warbot Defender was released and I chose to call him Springer in one of the toy feedback threads, reminding that they're not official and should never be called by their trademarked names.

    That's Trademark, not Copyright ;)

Also, I usually chuckle everytime I see people constantly referring to unlicensed products as "Not-Character," even though I've done it a few times myself. I also chuckle at the people who refer to them by number and not name (like PP03 or whatever) as if the rest of us have those memorized. I usually try to refer to them as their company name... like calling not-Bruticus "Colossus."

as for the not-names - pfft, I didn't release it so I'm not the one to care about copyrights/trademarks, I call 'em what they were meant to look like.
