In the past year both energon and Cybertron have come out on DVD, does anyone know and or think that we might get RID on DVD soon as well. I think it's a different company or producer or something, I know it was on fox kids back in the day.

    I hope it does!!!!

I hope so too. RID was the series that got me started on Transformers. For now, I guess we'll have to watch RID episodes on Youtube...

from what they have said before fox kids has rights to it...thus there has not really been any BW or RID avaliable on DVD that i know of because of the Fox holding the rights to distribution ...

No BW? I'm pretty sure I have the whole set on DVD from Rhino.

RID is owned by Disney. They would have to release it or cough up and give it back to Hasbro since they recently, as reported here at TFW, went on a rebuying their property spree recently.

Guess this means that, for once, it rocks to be in the UK. Yeah, baby.

RiD was put on the air by Saban, which is a Disney owned company. So to get it put into DVD, someone would have to pay both Hasbro AND Disney for the rights.

And that's even if they get permission in the first place.

So, yeah, not likely to happen. Best bet is to watch it on Youtube or get copies in some format of what people taped off the TV run.

Or get the UK release of them, if you have a DVD player able to play UK region DVDs. The UK is/has gotten them released, so it's likely the best option for official released stuff.

That really irritates me. Why rebuy the rights to a TV show if they don't plan on doing anything with it?

It is hard to say...they might have plans in the future...the folks that are redoing the new terminator trilogy movies acquired the terminator rights several years ago and finally just started the Tv show and movie filming...

could be there are plans in the future on a release to video but i would not hold my breath on anything in the near near future....

Even if Disney wanted to do something w/RiD, they need Hasbro's permission to do it. And if Hasbro wanted to do something w/the RiD cartoon episodes (JUST the cartoon episodes!) they need Disney's permission. And if a 3rd party wanted to do something, they need permission of both.

So this is just a case of Disney being a dick. Again. They can't actually do a thing w/the RiD series besides squat on it.

I bought the latest RID boxsets which came out in the UK, but have yet to watch any more than the first episode.

Part of me can't understand how they could bring out cool toys, but the cartoon looks so lousy.

Be nice if RID does come out to DVD sometime in the near future... I've never seen that series, and I'd like to check it out.

    It's easy.

The company that made the toys is not the same one that made the cartoon. ;)

Isn't there a region free DVD set out there somewhere?

Not that I'm encouraging the purchase of such a set, mind you.

Personally I hope it eventually happens. This whole situation is just another reason I'm not a big Disney fan. As for the whole different regions thing, I personally think it's a load of bs. Not that I don't understand some of the reasons behind it, just that I think that overall it has a bad feeling to it. We need to figure out how Disney and Hasbro can somehow pull together and agree for once. Which the likelihood of that happening any time soon is little to none.

I'd like a helping of RiD please. I've seen some of the episodes on YouTube and would love to see the entire series on DVD. Is it the best TF series? No. Is it better than Armada or Energon? In my opinion, yes. Please Disney/Hasbro/whoever, make this happen!

Don't forget that Car Robots was never meant for a global audience. It wasn't an international effort like the Unicron Trilogy, instead it was Takara's own forray again into Transformers, so the show was only aimed at Japanese kids. That's why there was only 1 new Destron mold, but a whole bunch of Cybertron molds, as well as such a heavy repaint line.
