I got the new album today and it rocks HARD! The producer also produced at least one Pantera album to my knowledge. Billy plays everything...except drums of course. Jimmy sounds awesome! Im glad that guy cleaned up.

    *raises hand*

Just heard 'Tarantula'. Enjoyed it, but it's definitely not 'Zero', 'Bullet With Butterfly Wings', or 'Ava Adore'.

i just wanted to say, chamberlain is the fucking man.

but as previous successors, i dont expect anything to top MCatIS.

^ arguably THE most polished rock album of the 90s.

I've been a long time SP fan and I like 'Tarantula', but I can't get into the rest of the new album. I was spotty on Machina and plain abhorred that Zwan thing that spawned of the Pumpkins remains. Maybe I'll come around, but I'm on a Shins kick right now.

I'm a SP fan! But the new album, I just can't dig it at all. I think the production is lousy and it sounds so stale. And to me its not SP without Iha or Marcy, heck I'd even settle for Auf De Maur. Corgan's an egomaniac, eff him

It's not my favorite, but it's definitely an essential album for any '90s or alternative rock music collection. Never been a fan of the rest of their stuff, though. I'll take the Pixies before 'em and the Killers after 'em.

I'll argue that. It COULD have been the most polished rock album of the 90's, if Corgan had kept his ego in check and edited it down to a single disc. It's an hours worth of balls-out awesome music padded with another hour of needless fluff that drags the whole thing down. It's hard to call something polished when half the record is filler.

I'm with honestgabe, I think this new album is terrible.

I just bought it over the weekend. A few songs are pretty good, but some of the songs sounded the same only with different lyrics. I only had a chance to listen to it once, so I need to give it another try. It did make me pull out and listen to all of Siamese Dream though. Looking forward to the Fall Tour.

ill admit some of the lesser materials are a bit of a wank off, but in the context of corgan being ambitious/pretentious (keep in mind this was the decade where rock was in denial) wanking off worked. and in the context of bands then dumbing their sound the variety in arrangements certainly made that album stood out.

I second that bro. I've actually edited it down myself, cut out a lot of what I considered junk. Thank heavens for mp3 players there.

But I will say this, Zeitgeist is a great re-entry for the Pumpkins. It tails a bit near the end, but the first 3/4 are really enjoyable. Though I'm not sure of its staying power overall.

I heard their song from the TF soundtrack and was seriously underwhelmed. I really would like to hear the rest of the album and give it the benefit of the doubt. I don't expect another Siamese Dream or Mellon Collie, but I don't want it to be as bad as their 'unreleased' last album or Adore. If it's at least as decent as Machina was, I'll be happy. And am I the only one around here that liked Machina?

    I heart band threads.

Smashing Pumpkins were cool up till their Ava Adore album.

    Nope. I loved Machina.

I'm a big fan of the new album, too. Especially the "Doomsday Clock", "7 Shades of Black" "Bleeding the Orchid", and "United States of America". I love the long ending on that last one.

By this point, even the tracks that bugged me at first have grown on me.
