A few friends of mine are big time into geocaching and invited me to go with them, mostly because they were curious to see my new Android tablet in action. So I installed the c:geo app and off I went on my very first geocaching expedition.

I loved it! So much that I ordered a bunch of stuff for future expeditions. Any TFW2005 geocachers out there? Tips for a total noob?

First time I've heard of it. Sounds pretty neat.

I've only done it once, with a buddy of mine who is really crazy about it. He lives out in the boonies, so we ripped up and down hillsides and backcountry on these wicked ATVs, finding a couple caches here and there. It was certainly fun. I'd like to do it again, but I don't seem to have the time lately. If there is one thing I would say, is to get used to searching in areas you are already familiar with (eg: neighborhoods and terrain that you already know). That away you won't get lost, or if you do, you know how to get yourself back to a safe spot. We got lost and ended up trying to find a cache that was in an area that was washed out by flooding. We ended up driving through really high water until we made it back down to the road.

I've done it once or twice and loved it, but I've found all the ones near me. :lol  I'd do more, but don't have access to a GPS. :(

So far, I have a list of 44 nearby caches to find, all of which are within walking distance. Should keep me busy for a couple of weeks.

I haven't done it, but I am sort of curious about it. I have a friend who does it a bit.

I am really big into Geocaching. In fact, one of the main reasons to drive on my latest vacation that I just came back from was to Geocache, even though I didn't get many done...

As of my latest find, I am up to 134 finds, and unfortunately zero hides, but that will change soon as I have a really awesome container that will be here tomorrow!

I also have a series of Travel Bugs based on the new Super Sentai show, Gokaiger, mainly because these items really do make good travel bugs.

    Cool Travel bugs!
Man, this is getting addictive. I've been finding one or two caches per day since Sunday and it's all I think about :D

This sounds like fun...I think I might have to look into more. Good idea for some exercise.

My wife and I Geocache whenever we get the chance! Good fun and it helps one to learn their area fairly quickly.

Long story short my neighbor is looking to get a rugged handheld gps system for her son and Autisic grandsons for Christmas this year. Would anybody have any suggestions?

Well, if they are Geocaching, I would recommend the Magellan eXplorist GC. It's inexpensive ($150 at the most). It's easy to use, and it's my choice for geocaching. I love it!

Some jerk didn't log my Gokai Silver key... I will have to release another one into the wild. I think I have a spare Silver key...
