Just wanted to see if there were any other couple years here on the boards as I'm making my upgraded Bane outfit for a few cons I'll be going to. Ifor you're into it too, what outfits have you worn/plan on wearing?
I only cosplay one time a year, and that's at Comic Con. At first year (2012) I didn't have any outfit and the only thing I had was my DBZ scouter. The next year (2013) however I decided to wear a costume for every time I attend the event. The first one I wore was Alteir from Assassin's Creed, but the costume was shoddily made that I ended up throwing it away and swore not to buy costumes online ever again. Last year I was Link and it was so fun because I was a chick magnet (LOLZ) but walking with this outfit was tiring and annoying with the heavy shield on my back and the sword that hits anything (Man was I really fat back at these days...) For this year I was either going to be Okabe Rintaro or the Fourth Doctor. Went for the Fourth Doctor. Still not fully completed, but this is how it's now.
Good to see some real cosplayers who make their own costumes and not a bunch of attention whore poser geeks who have their outfits professionally done.
Eh, there was girl who won the cosplay competition at a local con. She was dressed as Inuyasha (this was like 10 years ago) and she admitted she bought it! There were tons of people who made some really good costumes. I always thought that was kind of crappy, but I wouldn't say people who buy the outfits aren't legit. Just not fair to win the competition when it was bought and there were 10 other Inuyasha's there.
Cosplaying is dressing up as a character to which the person likes, it is not about making the costume, though many do. Trying to be like "oh lol look at this attention whore and his/her bought costume" is stupid.
True, here is me with a costume I bought from party city I think. I wore it to take my nephew trick-or-treating. I could have easily worn it to a sci-fi con and not have been an attention whore.
There really is a difference between making and buying, though. As with anything created, there's more of a sense of pride in the attempt. Bought costumes are good when the wearer gets into the role, though a made costume can create the role on a much more intimate scale. Anyway, here are two costumes I made. The Pyramidhead one is my girlfriend, and Lucario is my daughter:
I want to cosplay as Zero from Code Geass, but I'm no use at making costumes and don't want to spend hundreds for the mask. Would be so cool though...
Where those pictures taken at Philly Comic-Con? I've never been to comic-con but if I did I would cosplay as Weiss from RWBY or Verity Carlo from the IDW comics.
for a while now, i've been slowly gathering i need to pull off a costume of Drunken Fist Master: Bo' Rai' Cho from the Mortal Kombat franchise. got the fake feet shoes that will make me look like i'm walking barefooted. and black long hair wig because the character has long hair. he is fat, i'm fat, he has a beard, i have a beard that is (Lugnut): GLORIOUS!!! hunting the right clothing will be a challenge.
Cosplaying Ruka Urushibara from Steins;Gate for a local anime con this summer, I'm super excited. I've also recently done Lady Deadpool and Verity Carlo. I think Lady Deadpool was my favorite out of everything so far.
Nah, I don't think I consider myself a real cosplayer with just three costumes and I never made any of them myself. Well, I bought some main parts but other were from my closet/clothes departments. The coat I'm wearing for my Doctor cosplay was custom made with my design choices if that counts .
