I want to know why Jetfire in ROTF was an SR-71 when the original was based off an F-14 TomCat.

Same character, but not same alt-mode. And as others pointed out, Bay's version.

    QFT.
The Jetfire toy was a reused Bandai Macross Valkyrie/Veritech fighter mold iirc.

Yeaaaaaah. Jetfire was never a F-14, he was a refugee from All singing Giant Space Alien protoculture anime. IIRC F-14 didn't have booster packs that enable outer space flying.

But you know. I don't need that manual to fly an SR-71, I mean if Daryl could do it how hard can it be?

Wasn't G1 Starscream a F-14 TomCat? That could factor in as a reason.

    Here we go...
Jetfire toy was based upon a toy that resembled the F-14, but was exponentially faster. (a vehicle that routinely fought in space, btw)

Jetfire in G1 cartoon wasn't really an F-14, but a variable wing jet (a huge one) that was fast enough to escape Earth's gravity and travel in space.

Jetfire in Bay-verse reflects 2 elements of the core character: extreme age in relation to most TFs and his speed.

    simple enough, right?
