I searched but couldn't find anything that specifically answered my question...

I currently have the 20th Anniversary DVD Prime and will be getting the MP-05 Megatron. Is there any reason why I should get MP-01 in your opinions? Is he that much better than DVD prime and would DVD prime pale in comparison with MP-05 Megs?

I was actually going to ask that question in my "Which is Better?" thread. I think Mp-01 is bigger, more articulation, comes with more accessories and stuff. Does the 20th have the axe, megatron gun and matrix?

He is esentially the same mold as 20th DVD Prime and comes with the same accessories (MP-01 doesent have the talking stand though).

He has a chromed grill, fuel tanks, wheel rims and bumper, silver paint in place of white and long smokestacks (which are also chrome). His eyes are also metallic blue (and reflective).

I believe the red on him is a bit darker as well, and the brake-lights on his feet are painted differently.

More articulation? They're the same toy...

MP-01 spanks the new dvd prime. That one is ugly and the red is wrong IMO. No chrome also hurts it. I would get the actual MP Prime to compliment your MP Megatron.

IMO the first edition 20th Prime is very nice too, the the only differences between it and MP-01 are shorter smokestacks (which I replaced with reproduction long smokestacks) and painted on battle damage (which I happen to like) an a black gun.

Woohoo, I thought I was the only one who liked the battle damage! :)

Anyhow, yeah, I would say MP-01, MP-04, and 20th Prime are all markedly superior to DVD Prime. Chrome versus matte silver, long stacks versus short (in the case of the MP's at least), deep red versus bright red-orange, black/grey gun versus blue, and no tacky yellow highlights on the head.

If you're already going to drop a chunk of change on the DVD mold, I'd say you might as well spend a bit more and get one of the other versions... they really are better.

I prefer 20th Prime with repro long stacks. Technically, it has more paint apps than the Japanese version because of the battle damage deco. :p

This is my personal 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime. :)

The only difference from the "stock" version are the long smokestacks.

If you're going to get MP-01, I'd tell you to pass and just get the MP-04 package anyway, since it's the same Prime as 01 but it includes the trailer too.

I can't wait for the day when they make a Prime with the battle damage from the movie. Giant hole in the chest with maybe some lights.

Yeah, Tom/Has/Tak can make it a set with a Movie Damaged Megatron with fractured body, a frelled up face, and a double-fisted sized dent in the center of his chest! As a bonus, a movie-damaged Starcream foot for kicking it! :lol

Thanks for all the input guys....I'm probably going to have to pick him up now. I really dislike the yellow on Prime's face in the DVD version too.

I have the DVD Prime, but I just plan on pimping him with one of the readily available custom smokestacks sets available on eBay. I've already found a black MP gun, so the only real problem I have with it now is the color. I'll just pose him next to Alternators Sideswipe, who's pretty much the same shade of red.
