To follow the TFW rules, all I will do is offer my condolences to the victims and their families. I also wish that the wounded recover fully.

Wonderful idea. Let's completely ignore the millions of responsible gun owners across the country, and punish them all for the actions of a few, and let's also ignore that we are talking about CRIMINALS, who could probably get guns and such anyway, despite the ban. Really, that's an excellent idea, genius. You should win the Nobel Peace Prize for that.

You gotta admit though, there are less school/college shootings in countries where the general population aren't allowed to own guns.

Guns weren't the cause of this anyway, guns were a tool used. The cause is likely to be a lot more complicated.

It shocks me everytime something like this happens, I can't really imagine it.

I have a friend who was at the school during time of the shooting. It didn't happen in the building he was in, but everyone was still panicking since they could hear the gunshots.

Of all the bad things that are going on in this country, this is one thing that I wish we could remedy right now. My prayers go out to all those at NIU and to anyone who has lost someone in a school shooting related incident.

Your sarcasm detector is clearly broken.

I am of the opinion, that access to high power, high magazine capacity firearms is one of many factors in this. As much as I, a man who is a total fan of archaic weapons (swords, daggers and archery) I have always had a healthy fearful respect for guns. I know many people who shoot, mainly sport and farmers.

Clearly, this young man was disturbed, scared, insane or just plain off kilter enough to decide that his life wasn't worth living and that misery loves company.

It is true that those determined to die and kill others are almost unstoppable. Nothing short of a cavity search that went to the back of this man's teeth would have stopped him. And that in itself would have probably just lead to the deaths of the security staff that tried to search him.

Gun ownership is a thorny issue in the country of the United States. It will rear its head again here. The usual suspects: the Internet, Video Games, Violent movies, Rap and Heavy Metal music will once again be dragged in and beaten with phone books. All will overlook one clear fact: that this guy just decided to kill others and himself.

Maybe what happened is that, like anything complex in the world, this guy, regardless of outside influence just broke. A synapse misfired or died and shit just went wrong in his head. I'll never know, and sadly neither shall we.

Its a terrible thing that others must die, to satisfy the sufferings of others: none of the men and women listed deserved to die. I have no particular feelings of faith so I'll simply say, I am sorry.

I know there are a lot of responsible gun owners in the USA but your country seriously needs to ban handguns and high powered rifles from general sale

We had the awful Dunblane shooting her in the UK back in the 90s which was enough to change gun control for the better and now there is no general sale of hand guns or high powered automatic rifles or shot guns.

Sure there are illegal weapons floating about but its a safer place because of the laws.

I was a police officer for 6 years from the age of 21 and never had a firearm and was never confronted with one, its a shame its not the same for you guys across the pond.

My thoughts and prayers go out to those families involved in the tragedy.

Some food for thought is this though, instead of getting behind your right to bare arms wouldnt it better to put them down regardless of how responsible you are?? lead the way dont follow the pack, its the only way progress can ever be made

yeah okay but maybe the reason your country will never be gun free is because of pigheaded individuals like who own something capable of taking a human life simply because ''you can''

as for the blog, whoever that guy is has just summed up the blueprint for war in a few paragraphs

''its my right to bare arms therefore why should I be the first to lay them down''

You dont know when to call it a day, in some instances its an excellent quality but then there comes a point where a line needs to be drawn in the sand, if you guys want more people to keep getting wasted in schools and shopping malls then keep on baring those arms, lay them down and you start making headway to eliminating the problem, until then my friend you yourself are a big part of it, the wild west died long ago.

It's not as easy as just banning guns from the USA. This is a perfect example.

Chicago has a ban on all hanguns within the city. Has that lowered the murder rates? Not really. There are still lots of shootings. Illegial firearms are easily accessable. 2 words, South Side.

Also, there are a lot of other reasons a law just can't be passed like that. If there were a simple solution, I bet it would have been done already.

I will offer my shock and sympathy to those affected.

As far as the other discussion topics in this thread, I'm staying away from them. There isn't enough education on the part of those across the aisle from my beliefs to have a pertinent discussion without resorting to potty mouth.

    Absolutely horrible. :(

Indeed. It's better to try and stop the illegal weapon trade then the legal one.
