Issue #2 has been translated, photoshopped and uploaded! While it's still only six pages per issue, it looks like Tsushima has finally decided to start doing some original stories. Soundwave and Lugnut vs. the Dinobots! And no, "Lugnuts" isn't a consistent type-o in the comic; that's what they call him in Japan. I thought about using his English name, but then I remembered I used "Ironhide" in the prologue instead of "Bulkhead", so I might as well keep consistent.
I think Lugnut wasn’t used in order to avoid the alternative, which would have had "Natto" (a fermented bean dish aka stinky beans) worked into the title, something children would have never let down. However, adding an “s” to the name looks even worse for those who speak English. How often do you see someone with “nuts” worked into his/her name?
I finished reading the (translated) story and I thought it was a pretty cool tale about Soundwave & Lugnuts while enjoying the parts involving Dinobots as well. -TF2
Yeah, that's what I figured. Why facilitate an embarassing pun when it can be avoided. Though I learned something recently that I didn't know before regarding the Japanese use of the English word "nut(s)". Since the Japanese have no plurals in their language, they regularly use "nut" ("natto") and "nuts" ("nattsu") interchangeably regardless of context or quantity. For instance, "peanut butter" is rendered "piinattsubataa" in Japanese, which we'd read as "peanuts butter" in transliteration.
Hmm, these Dinobots certainly seem a bit more cooperative than their Western versions. As was the case in the first comic, this artist seems to really like buffing up his bots, and Optimus is drawn very reminiscent of G1 Prime in that 1st page panel. But I still can't get used to BB looking like a cute plush toy or something. Still, it's cool to see that "The Cool" manga is getting some original stories.
Snarl (the toy) is a bit darker & bluer gray than the other Dinobots. Looks like the Manga exaggerated that somewhat. Neat to see new content. (does Naoto draw AND write these, or just draw?) There's no reason to expect the manga to follow the cartoon, but the level of disparity here is interesting to see.
Like Optimus, I'm glad we can rely on them. To be pretty much abused and beaten by every character from now on
These are neat. And I think Naoto's style fits better with Animated's aesthetic than those of the robots seen in the Energon/Superlink and Henkei pack-in comics.
