Here we have Springer! Had a lot of fun designing this guy's body. I based his design off of both his "Last Stand" and G1 appearance, though I purged him of any parts indicating flight capabilities. Seeing as he's a fencer (as am I!), I gave him a huge gauntlet. In addition to being a piece of fencing equipment, the huge lower gauntlet design motif is something reminiscent of anime-like designs, something seen in a lot of the Cyber Ninjas.

    Enjoy!

Awesome! I'm a huge fan of Springer! I really like his facial expression and the fencing sword; it gives your illustration a lot of character.

Springer looks pretty darn good without flying bits :D  :thumb :thumb

Very nice job and I like the "gauntlet" idea, but not energon infused??

Absolutely magnificent piece! Both the design and the execution make this look like official TF:A artwork, plucked straight from DJW's blog. None of the 'this-kinda-looks-like-fan-art'-vibe that many of the TF:A fan illustrations have. Of course I must admit that I have a soft spot for Springer since he was my very first TF toy, before I even knew there was a cartoon and a comic book that it belongs to.

And to prevent this post from being pure fanboy gushing, there is a little nitpick I have: While I love the idea of the gauntlet, the way it's designed it looks like a regular gauntlet and not something that comes from Cybertron.

I'd love to see the alt modes though (And for Hasbro to give the dude a proper toy....).

Great job! This guy is great. Would you consider making the rest of the Wreckers? :D  Not all of them, just the main ones like Topspin, Inferno, Roadbuster, Leadfoot, maybe even Whirl. I think you could really do them justice.

Drawing vehicles is not up my alley. XD
Canonically, DJW has confirmed he just turns into a Cybertronian car. I imagine him as a sort of Tumbler-esque vehicle.

Energon infused body parts are few and scattered (perhaps nonexistent?) amongst Animated designs. There aren't even that many energy based weapons! Even though it might be more aesthetically pleasing, I opted against it.

Thank you! I try to emulate DJW's design process that he detailed in the TFW2005 interview with Kickback years ago. I go off of what I remember G1 Springer to look like, then I go back to reference material, then I refine and refine til I get a finished product. I did a few simple doodles to get some basic body structure down, then drew two actual pieces of him, the second being this one.

The gauntlet was a particularly difficult part for me to draw and still something looks off about it to me as well. Hopefully I'll figure something out!

Perhaps as pencil sketches (doodles!) but probably not as full on designs, at least not anytime soon. I drew up Springer here primarily for my Autobot City project. I'm basically trying to draw up every single canon Autobot in Animated. I'm at like...50something out of 130 or so.

Thanks for all the great feedback guys!
