if you think about it, Animated Sentinal Prime would throw the human race under the bus in a heartbeat if it meant saving cybertron. Animated sentinal loves cybertron and I think if working with megatron meant he could save cybertron, he'd do it. So i think that Animated sentinal and movie sentinal have the same morals and would do the same thing to save cybertron.

We are led to believe that DotM Sentinel was a wise and compassionate leader before the events of the movie. He taught Optimus everything he knows, so that should tell us something. Animated Sentinel is a jerk all of the time, so I'm pretty they're not alike, even if they would both choose to work with Megatron. Also, even if Animated Sentinel might work with Megaton under some circumstances, that's just speculation. We can't really say that two characters are the same for both doing something that one of them never did.

I'm pretty sure DotM Sentinel was loosely inspired by G1 Sentinel and has nothing to do with his Animated namesake.

Sentinel Prime is the name of Optimus's predecessor in many continuities, and in this instance, he continues his predecessor's legacy of being a giant jerk. Maybe the producers did not want him to Say "SPOON!"

Despite taking pride in his status and duties as a member of the Elite Guard, who are supposed to be Cybertron's finest, I seriously question the notion that TFA Sentinel loves Cybertron. The aforementioned pride doesn't strike me as having its roots in patriotism or anything like that, instead coming across as a manifestation of his bloated ego. I honestly feel that Sentinel signed up with the Elite Guard not because he wanted to serve his world and his race, but because he wanted glory for himself. Given the choice between saving his own skin and saving his home planet, I say he'd probably choose the former.

This gives me visions of Sentinel flying away squished up in a little escape pod as Cybertron explodes in the background.
I liken TFA Sentinel Prime to Zapp Brannigan in Futurama. :p

    This.

    And this.

Animated Sentinel = egotistical blowhard jerk who places himself above all else
DotM Sentinel = well intentioned extremist who places the survival of his race/planet above all else

So essentially, he's the Zapp Brannigan of the Animated Universe.

DOTM Sentinel was driven to desperation (and insanity) which is why he did what he did. Animated Sentinel is motivated by arrogance. They're not really alike.

What evidence do we have that he's insane, rather than just sane and making choices we don't agree with?

John Doe: "It's more comfortable for you to label me as insane."

David Mills: "It's very comfortable, John."

Well, he thinks he's a God, wants to enslave and eventually kill an innocent race to rebuild his dead planet, (said race is completely incapable doing so, mind you) and killed his own bretheran without being provoked for said insane antics and then tried to justify it with insane reason.

I'm not saying his motivations are insane, but he's quite clearly lost by the end of the film.

Sorry, I don't know who Sentinal Prime is, I do know about Sentinel Prime, though.

DOTM Sentinel Prime is one of the greatest villains in cinema history.

TFA Sentinel Prime is the biggest dick in the history of cartoons.

They are great well written charecters. That's what they have in common.

There's some similarities, but the nuances of the two characters take them in wildy different directions.

There's no evidence he thinks he's literally a god-- contextual evidence suggests he's speaking metaphorically. We have little reason not to believe human labor couldn't be used for Sentinel's purposes. Slavery is cruel, but not insane. He doesn't appear to care whether or not humanity survives the ordeal, but again that's not insane. He killed individuals that he knew would be obstacles to his cause when he had the best opportunity. We can say that's cold-blooded, but it's certainly a rational decision. I think you may be using "insane" to mean something other than what it actually means.
