I just watched A Bridge Too Close again and as much as I love the episode, I really hate the way Megatron completely owns Optimus in their fight.

Although I do think it makes Animated Prime a heroic character study in that he directly confronts an opponent that is physically his superior, it was just too much to see Megatron holding him with one hand and tossing him about effortlessly.

I think Prime needs some type of upgrade to even the edge.
I have two ideas.

1. Give him a trailer in vehicle mode that converts to "Apex Armor" as the IDW continuity calls it. I know that some people just read that and cringed, but I personally like Primes that combine with their trailers and it could make for a great toy.

2. Have Prime's axe in the show get powered up so it is like that double edged monster weapon the Voyager toy has. It could even prop on his back and be a rocket pack like the toy as well.

I like it that the Decepticons are incredibly powerful in Animated, but as we go through the third season (and hopefully beyond) I would like to see Prime hold his own against Megatron.

Well if Prowl can get armour then the writers obviously aren't opposed to the idea and it is practically a tradition for Prime that Hasbro have only recently started going against.

 

The Autobots definitely need to get better weapons, otherwise them always beating the Decepticons is going to start to look stupid and the Decepticons look like weenie warriors. There's only so many times a weaker being can defeat a stronger foe before it gets lame.
I suppose you could limit Optimus using 'Apex Armour' too much by needing Sari's key to activate it. Then he can't just slip it on whenever a bad guy shows up 'cos Sari might not be around. Or just not able to get her key to the armour during a battle.

Failing that, maybe Optimus could combine with Sentinel.  

 

A leader class prime with armor add-ons that becomes show-accurate trailer?

Yeah, I've been saying from the start that the show will probably demonstrate some evolution of Prime from low class team leader into supreme commander and since Hasbro isn't going to want Prime off shelves for too long there is bound to be more versions of him in the animated line. I'm don't think it'll be long before we see a Nightwatch style repaint of Voyager Prime.

Would be a very interesting idea. Especially if it made him look like RID Optimus Prime  . I'm not sure how well it would translate into toy form, but then again, it was hard to see how some already existing Animated designs would translate into physical form, and yet they've succeeded at doing that, so who knows what they can do.

 

I'd be all for it. Cybertron and PM Prime are my two favorite Primes. The way I see it, if animated doesn't start making enhancements to the characters, the story will stop making sense (you don't keep sending weaker warriors against behemoths over and over and hope for a crazy turn of events) AND their well of toys will start getting mundane, having only repaints and bit parters releasing.

 

Please God no. Add-ons suck the big one in the cartoons. Cool for toys, shitty for story.

I'd love to have a new armour suit for Prime, be it Animated or Universe.

 

I think it could work as a new character, or a drone like Apex Bomber. Apex Armor for Optimus would be awesome. Needs to have a limit, though. Like, bonding with it could leave Optimus drained of Energon, or he gets addicted to using the armor. I he just got armor, it'd turn into the generic Anime battle.

I thought the show was totally against upgrades.... Or at least reckless usage or the need for it. I don't remember.

And besides, we already have an Add-On character: Remember our favorite mutual Bounty Hunter? He practically has a collection of add ons!

I hope Optimus has another job lined up.

 

I think he meant the armour should be either a different character or just sold separately, so you don't end up buying another Prime. I could be wrong though
