So after seeing the botcon minerva I decided I wanted one, but frankly didn't have $950 to blow on it.. So.. We started with an Arcee and got to work! here we are $930 cheaper, and here's my results. I'm not quite done, I've got to touch up some areas of white, and apply some decals.. remove some of the excess paint on the ball joints that sticks out like a sore thumb.. I also have yet to figure out the antenna, but they will be there by the time tfcon arrives! But I'm overall happy with the result. Looks like $1000 dollars to me!
Yeah i have to admit bot con want billoins for simple repaints. This is great it looks just like the con one minus the antenna
Yup, my entire purpose for making it. I plan on figuring out what can be turned into some antenna later today.. I've got plans!
The only one that was on ebay went for $950. Basically since it's a "custom class figure" it's usually a figure that's in the theme of the set of the botcon toys (in this case animated) and you get a toy where all the pieces are on the sprue. Then you cut it off the sprue and put it together, and add minor paint detailing (not a whole ton needs to be added otherwise the custom class would take a lot longer). The thing is since the class is so limited (It's almost sold out immediately) the toy that is generated from it is also super limited. And therefore fetch ridiculous values on the secondary market. Take G2 sideswipe last year for example. That toy had some absurd prices.. I don't know how many are out there of Minerva, but I'm thinking it's under 100.
Do you have a spare helmet from a Classics Jetfire or 2.0 Treadbolt? You could use those as your antenna.
Beautiful paint work, Justin! The white looks so crisp and clean! As for antennae, I'd suggest using some thin styrene square rod and lightly sanding it to a rounded edge/point. It's what I used on the head of my Classics Optimus Prime WIP.
Added Some extra paint on the shoulder pads, Sanded down the fist peg holes (where she grips her backpack), found a GI Joe snake eyes with some nunchucks and cut them into about 2/3 length and then dremeled out the sides of her head and glued them in place.. Then painted them black.. I need to touch up a little grey and do my final white coat and she should be done! Do you like the antenna?
I redid the white, and touched everything up, waiting on some stickers from a friend, but might have to improvise! Really cleaned up the chest (thanks frog tape!) I also need to touch up a few unexpected areas on the alt mode.. But that's easy..
MY final Minerva pic, special thanks to Autobotx23 for helping me get the stickers I was looking for!
