Hey, all! Been on vacation a couple weeks and thats why the delay. He's pretty much all painted. Just need to add flames and figure out how to work the spoiler. As you can see he's got new (old) exhaust pipes from his G1 counterpart. Just had to chop them down a 1/2" and build out his doors a bit with styrene for a much more Hotrod look. Hopes ya like!

Yep! Thats the color I'm goin for. If you look at Hot Rods first appearance in the 86 movie, he was much brighter than how the toy was produced. Almost a magenta rather than orange. I went with that look for something a lil different, plus I think it fits in well with the bright and playful aesthetic of Animated.

What kind of paint is that? Did you have to mix it?

I've been looking for that color for Hot Rod for a while now.

I'd prefer the red over the magenta myself (I don't think pink and orange go that well together, personally), but it's your fig, and the colour does mesh with his 'toon version quite nicely. I'm definitely interested to see how well this reflects Hot Rod when it's done. Are you planning to mount a spoiler of some sort?

Been a while since I last watched the 80's movie, but your right he was a lot brigher!! Definately will fit with the Animated style, look forward to seeing how the whole figure turns out. Again the paint applications are faultless!

Thanks alot guys for all the feedback! I did have to mix the paint. It's Folkart Enamels Engine red, Cobalt and White. As for the spoiler it will have one, im just trying to manage it without it parts-forming.

Looks like a great start. I agree with the majority here, the colors look great. Good luck with the spoiler. Hope you can find a way to work it into transformation and that it fits with the TFA style

If you can't figure out a way to incorporate the spoiler onto the figure's altmode, why not add the spoiler/wing 'under the hood'? At least that way you'd have it in his robot mode, since you have the hood itself sticking up behind Jazz's head... Maybe you could even cut the hood into parts, allowing it to fold into the shape of the wing?

Don't know how feasible it is, but I thought I'd toss in my two cents worth... Maybe my thoughts will get someone elses' thoughts rolling along...

I'm impressed! Those are some extreamly clean paint lines, and I compleatly agree with you on the color choice. Animated Hot Rod definately needs to be bright.
