The other day i was looking on amazon and found the old voyager class animated Grimlock. he was only 18 bucks so i said what the heck and ordered it. now that i have him in hand he's awesome.

i was wondering if it's worth it to try and collect the other animated Dinobots, and if they would be in close to proper scale with my Generations figures?

    Quit while you're ahead.

Seriously, I am a MASSIVE animated fan, but if you're only a casual fan of the aesthetic stop with Grimmy who looks awesome and has a fairly traditional transformation. Swoop and Slag are quite different iterations and much smaller, Swoop is quite cool but Slag (Snarl) is a nasty toy with very little to do with original. IMO.

yeah, snarl doesn't look that interesting, he's a little too boxy. but swoop looks pretty cool. i'm just happy to have a gray Grimlock. the only one i had before was the GPS stricken Beast wars Grimmy.

Animated Grimlock was the toy that got me back into collecting! He's awesome, and more people should check him out. As for the other two dinos, I only have Snarl, and both modes are pretty cool! He doesn't look much like Slag, and wouldn't be good on a Classics shelf, but he's still a good toy.

Animated Dinobots are a "gateway transformer" I started with them, and then ended up with the whole damn line, be careful!

oh yeah, he looks more like the character than classics grimlock. so far he's my second animated purchase after Rodimus Prime and i gotta say i love the design aesthetic.

the internal storyline for my collection is sort of like a universe war thing, so i'm not too concerned about sorting them by generation.

I like all 3 of my dinobots, even with Grimlock standing out as the best representation. But I also have all 3 standing behind Universe Legends class Wheelie cause frankly, I doubt we ever get as much as 2-4 Classics Dinobots or a better Classic Grimster.

On a side note, I do want to commend the manufacturers for the Animated line. They have the obvious alt-mode parts like wings, hoods & windshields, much like the G1 series, but the robots have some of the feel of the movieverse world, rounded arms and legs etc.
I know there are a lot of Animated haters out there but this may well be one of the best NEW lines IMO introduced in a long while.

I like Swoop the most out of the three. Grimlock is awesome though.

Snarl is definitely the weaker of the three, but definitely not bad at all.

I'm just really happy that we saw toys for all three of them.

I like them all. Considering that you can get Snarl on HTS for only $10, I'd say it's worth the minor expense to give him a try. Besides, I think they look better as a trio when posed together.

Honestly, I might like my Animated collection better than my CHUG one.
All the figures are gorgeous, stylized and look EXACTLY like they do in the cartoon (no small feet. See pretty much any other TF toyline and how the figures look nothing like their cartoon representation).
The Dinobots are awesome. Grimlock and Swoop are magnificent, and Snarl ain't bad (although I wouldn't recommend him to someone straight out of the cold).

Animated Grimlock is probably the best mainline Grimlock toy ever. Swoop is great, and Snarl is good, but not the best of the three.

I was a huge animated fan and am a huge dinobot fan, but I have to agree, the other 2 were just plain dissapointing.

I'd get Swoop. He's awesome and can do the /facepalm. I'd pass on Snarl though. He's just not that great for a plethora of reasons.

I'm a fan of all three with Grimlock being the best. I would say pick up all three and you can always resell one if you dont like it. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
